Celestion Debuts F12-X200 Full-Range Guitar Loudspeaker

#1 Post by nola50 »

I wonder if this has any practical use in a BFD cabinet?

January 29 2018, 04:00

During NAMM 2018, Celestion announced the F12-X200, the first guitarist’s speaker designed from the ground up for use with profiling amps, modeling software, impulse responses, and all technology for emulating coveted guitar amps and speaker cabinets. The new F12-X200 is effectively a coaxial design, combining a compression driver and a 12" woofer in a pressed steel chassis with a 2" round copper voice coil and ceramic magnet, able to reproduce a full range of frequencies from 60 Hz to 20,000Hz, with a power rating of 200W at 8Ω and 96dB sensitivity.

I don't see it. Guitar amp tones, modeled or otherwise, don't extend to 20kHz, or even 10kHz. There's just no need for a tweeter.

I could see it with an acoustic guitar setup. Small direct radiator cab when you aren't putting the acoustic through the PA.

Even used as a solo act cab with guitar and vocal going through it. But, by the time you add an amp and a mixer - you'd probably be better off with a little combo that's designed to do that.

This is why:

I'm seeing A LOT of this lately running sound for local bands. Essentially a tuner device picks up the note being played, converts it to midi, then off to a synth. You can play any instrument you want from your guitar. From piano to trumpet to banjo. No need for a keyboard player anymore.

Guys currently are just using a regular PA speaker for a backline cabinet and guitar modeler for guitar tone.

They send me 2 feeds. One for guitar and one for synth. Some guys want to send me stereo synth and guitar, so 3 feeds.
Built:

For best results, point the loud end of the array towards the audience
