Transformer spec for Cambridge Soundworks Basscube 12

#1 Post by Ravra »

Hi all. I'm new to the forum. I'm hoping someone can point me to the specs of the transformer in my Cambridge Soundworks Basscube 12. The subwoofer blew its fuse last night and it seems that the transformer primary winding melted down. I've googled the numbers on the transformer ("8603073 F / B3-030-1-86 F / Federal") but I get no hits! I hate to just throw the amp away though I did see a great reference to a super reasonable plate amp made by Dayton which I'm sure I can make fit (and might be as cheap as a new transformer!). Thanks!

The current required to melt the transformer windings probably indicates a lot more trouble than just that. Unless you can verify that's the only problem I would just replace the amp.

That’s a good point. I guess I just assumed that the primary winding had some flaw that caused it to fail over time. I suppose it could be inadequate heat-sinking. I’ll go with the new amp but I wish I knew why the old one failed!
