Forum Upgrade

#1 Post by Chris_Allen »

Hello Everyone!

It's that time a year where the forum gets patched, the server gets upgraded and other nice things happen.

With the upgrade there will be a some unavoidable changes to look and feel, we have tried to keep it consistent where possible but change is inevitable. There are however some highlights.

1) We've gone secure. All traffic through this site is now covered by https, effective immediately. There are a few images that are linked externally that aren't but most of the time it will listed as secure in your favourite browser.
2) Image uploads have had a major overhaul. You will no longer have to resize your image before uploading. As long as it's smaller than 4Mb (might change) the site will do all the resizing for you. Images are also now opened in a gallery type view where you can move through the images on the page/thread without having to open and close windows.
3) Quick posting. At the bottom of the thread you will be able to add a comment quickly.
4) Drag and Drop. You will be able to drag and drop your images into your post page.
5) Mobile friendly. The new theme is fully compatible with mobiles though tapatalk will most likely be supported as well.
6) Links now open in a new window/tab. No longer will you have to use the back button to navigate back to the thread.

So what used to be in the top left of the screen might be in the top right but the general layout is identical. There are most likely other features which are useful that I forgot to mention.

I'm aiming to do the transition as soon as possible during a time where it looks like no one is using the forum.

Any questions, fire away.

Thanks.

Chris.

Thanks heaps for putting in the hard yards so we can enjoy this forum Chris.
Looking forward to giving the new format more of a work out!

Thanks to Bill too, or this forum wouldn't exist...

Thanks, Chris! Despite being a creature of habit, I'm looking forward to these changes for once! These sound like a bunch of really convenient changes for forum members. :)

This upgrade reminds me of the previous version to the one we just left, in that the colour indicators are more apparent. I like that.

Chris_Allen, the SPL tool appears to not work with the "new" forum.
