I had a eureka moment this morning, ...but the story starts last weekend: I thought I'd set the Jacks up in the spare bedroom to try out the new (to me, but old) Matrix amp. Everything worked great - even dial'ed in some 50Hz and got more bass, hooray. Thought I'd crank it a bit, and I got the meter out to see what it was doing. Probably not a massively hot signal, but amp wound up a bit - loud! But nothing above 102dB. I pressed all the buttons I could think of: Fast/slow, A/C weighting, ...but nothing higher than 102 - didn't make sense.
...till this morning, when I saw the Hi/Lo button on the meter! I don't remember pressing that one.
