Is there any difference in a XLR cable and a MIC cable?
I am getting ready to buy cables to connect my drive rack to my 2-qsc amps and want to make sure I get the right thing
I know this is a noob question
Any recommendations on a brand of cable to buy or ones to stay away from

Re: XLR Cables
If you plan on using a lot of cables (i.e. bands, live sound) you can build your own.
If you only need a few and are going to the Banjo Depot chain store I recommend
Live Wire cables. Check with your local supplier most are lifetime warranty.

Re: XLR Cables
XLR cable can be used for mic connections or as signal cable.rec wrote:Is there any difference in a XLR cable and a MIC cable?

Re: XLR Cables
To clarify further, XLR represents the type of connector at the end of the cable. Don't get confused by MIC cables that terminate with a 1/4" TRS connector on one end and Male or Female XLR on the other end. Overall, 90% of MIC cables use XLR on both ends.
Re: XLR Cables
excellent, thanks for the quick responses
Looks like I will just be needing a few for my DJ rig
So I will probably just buy at GC or Sam Ash

Re: XLR Cables
Originally Manufactured by Cannon Corp.
X = Cannon "X"series
L = Cannon Latch Type Connector
R = Rubber surrounding the pins
Hence XLRs can be more then 3 pins.
There really is no such thing as "XLR Cable" but there is such a thing as cable with XLR ends attached!
Basically Mic cables usually have XLR Ends on them but it's possible for a mic cable to have 1/4" ends as well.
Try and buy at least 22ga - 24ga cable. The heavier the jacket the better the cable. I'm kinda partial to Beldin or Horizon Cable myself but there are others that are very good as well. Cannare Cable is very good but its rather expensive.I'm not sure its worth the extra expense. Same with Mogami! Beldin is pretty much industry standard stuff!
