qsc plx2 series amps for portable PA

#1 Post by tactix »

Hi all,

I have the opportunity to buy a new old stock qsc plx2 3602 or qsc plx2 1804 https://www.qsc.com/resource-files/prod ... _specs.pdf and I'm wondering what you all think of these as a possibility to power a portable PA that will initially consist of 2X 3012LF loaded Tuba 30s and a pair of Nady PTS-515 http://www.nady.com/products/speakers/p ... s/pts-515/. Later I plan to expand this to 4x Tuba 30s and a pair of Omnitop 12s which will replace the Nadys. Thoughts on these amps to do the job? Can the 3602 run the whole shebang?

Cheers

The 3602 will easily run 4 tubas on one side and 4 OTops on the other.

6 - T39 3012LF
4 - OT12 2512
1 - T24
1 - SLA Pro
2 - XF210

Thanks Bruce, any thoughts on how far the 1804 would take me?

The 1804 is sufficient for tops.

While the bigger amp is technically just barely enough to run everything, now it is at its maximum capacity to do so, and to run your expanded system you'd have to series wire the subs, and still not have enough. Given the way amps are are rated, I doubt you would make it to the limit points even now. Those amps run crazy hot when run at 2 ohms. A much better choice would be to get both, and use the big one for subs and the small one for tops. You'll have plenty of power and headroom that way, and it will support your expanded system later.

I'd heard they aren't great for 2ohms - now I know why! Thank you for your detailed response. I'll see what kind a price I can negotiate. These are new in their original box but they've been sitting for a number of years and I'm not sure yet what kind of warranty they'll have left if any.

If you buy them from an authorized qsc dealer they should have full warranty regardless of age. If you are not buying from an authorized dealer you get nothing anyway.
