QSC PLX 2402

#1 Post by brown18 »

Hey guys, im about to start 2x T30s loaded with one LAB12 each. Now i know the QSC plx2402 might be a little low on power but ive found a really good deal and wondering if its worth getting. The big question is, will 700w per channel provide me enough power to run the LAB12. I realize i probably wont be able to push the subs fully due to overloading the amp.

Thanks

G'day

The PLX2402 is 425W/8ohms/channel, or 58V. That's barely ok for 1 cab a channel.
If you like them and build another pair, that's when you get 700W/4ohms/channel or 52V, and that is far to near the bleeding edge of that amps specs.
Unless of course you're planning to run tops on one channel.

The lab 12 is about $10US per driver cheaper than the 3012lf, but it weighs 14lbs (6.something kilos) more.
Shipping to NZ, like here in Australia, will cost you a mint with Lab 12's, not so much with 3012lf's, and you cabs will be lighter with the same output as lab 12 loaded cabs.

Also, to run these cabs and protect drivers, you need some sort of DSP.
Rack mount units like the DBX driverack series, or Amps with onboard DSP are not desirable, they are essential. Factor that in as well....
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

Yea so ive got another amp and dbx pa2 with 2 tops (single 15" + horn). Just wanted the amp to run the 2 t30 (one per channel). Just using the lab 12s as i can get them locally for $300 each. Weight isnt an issue.

The PLX2402 has plenty of power, don't worry about overloading it. Its 2 ohm stable. Of course don't forget about your limiter.

Really? $300 each. That's a great price in our part of the world...
