1U amp options

#1 Post by commander_dan »

Hey guys,

I've been thinking about getting another amp to power a pair of DJ booth monitors. I'm after anyone's suggestions for good 2 channel 1U amps. Dsp not needed, but would be a bonus I suppose. Chasing something with decent output, greater than 100W @ 8ohms per channel, for added flexibility. Front to back fan operation as well.

I've found a couple of options so far:

http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/Pyle-PSA2000-2 ... nav=SEARCH

http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/6500-Watts-2-c ... nav=SEARCH

Any opinions on these 2 amps, or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

The gtds work ok. They're nowhere near the advertised power, but that shouldn't be a problem for your use
99% of the time, things that aren't already being done aren't being done because they don't work. The other 1% is split evenly between fools and geniuses.

Thanks Brent. The gtd did look good, all the right connections, and the correct airflow direction for my rack. Do you know roughly how far off they actually are? I guess if I'm gonna have another amp in the rack it'd be nice to have it double as a backup for at least my otops.

Behringer had a nice line of 1u amplifiers, the epq304, epq450, epq900. They seem to have been discontinued but maybe it's possible to find somewhere.

500 peak, 250 Mrs is about what we observed iirc. They break up super nasty, definently use a compressor or limiter. YMMV

Dan,
Not seen so often here in Oz, but good write ups and reports have been made from members here in the forum, in both SA and the UK.

Not sure of this brand, but perhaps worth a look;

DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

Actually they carry a variety of lesser-endowed 1U amps, but I'm afraid to look and see how dear they would be to the wallet.
