amplifier for 2 TUBA HT

#1 Post by avico78 »

I decided to build TUBA HT.
for large HT room:
The room is 6.5 meters * 15 meters
or 21 ft * 49 ft
Ceiling is about 2.4 meter /7 ft

AVR:Yahama 3030

I'm using Bill recommendation for subwoofer:
RSS390HF-4 15" Reference HF Subwoofer 4 Ohm
http://www.daytonaudio.com/index.php/rs ... 4-ohm.html

1.I'd like to match nice amplifier -
Thought about Crown amp, any recommendation?
can i directly connect the Yamaha Subwoofer (Front and Back) - using RCA to XLR cable?
to Subwoofer amplifier- i understand i should care for the correct gain ...but i'm not really understand
with sensitivity and whatever matter for connecting receiver preout to an external amplifier.
2.What are my option for protecting the woofer safe?

Thanks

Many people use or recommend plate amps (eg Bash 300 or similar) to run their THT's.
Sure, a Crown amp would be nice, but lots of people in home theatre don't like the fan noise these amps produce.

If you decide to go the Crown amp direction, keep any RCA to XLR lead as short as possible, as it is unbalanced.

You're ears!

In your home, I am told most people will turn their THT's down before they actually get to the point of destroying the driver, as the THT is so loud.

The THT is not a pro sound cab, it doesn't require protection if used sensibly.
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

Correct. Mount the plate amp(s) in it's own box, placing it near to the rest of your audio gear, and using the same power outlet as the rest of your audio gear to prevent hum from ground loops.

Don't mount the plate amp in the cab.

Not necessary, as I said before, the fan noise upsets most people in HT.
However, if you must have a model number, XLS 1000 is plenty...

avico78, it would be most helpful if you would fill out your user profile as that will tell us what country you are in.

Something is not clear,
The Crow input Sensitivity is 1.4V
where for the Yamaha 3020 is about 1 V.

How does the difference between the sensitivity impact?

as understand the XLS is a bettter amp then XLi ,
but in XLI there's a 0.775V option .
Is it will be better chooice?

That receiver is a beast. Loving this though:

I looked at the specs of the Yamaha, but it doesn't mention in the specs what the output voltage is. I would therefore assume that it is the home standard of 10dBv (0.775V). If you get one of the amps with 1V or 1.4V sensitivity, then you may not get full power out of the amp as it is expecting a higher input voltage.

Thanks escapemcp,

The opinions are very different over the internet.
Some are saying that a modern AVR are cable pushing 1.4V .

see comments:

from Crown:
http://crownaudio.com/kb/entry/16/

Is that mean i can use an AVR with 1V and increase the
Subwoofer volume in the AVR setup to + 4DB and it would be ok?
