What's are the best Amps for me IYO?

Dear All,

I would like to ask yours advice about Amps. I am going to build following cabs:

FOH: 2 x T39; 2 x DR200; Control: 4 x WH8

DRs would be run in stereo, T39s mono
Weight is important (less is prefered).

If it is possible I would like to use 1 channel for T39's and one for 4 WH8s, so all together I would like to use two Amps only (ideally 4U speces in the rack).

Please give me some suggestions what would be the best in my case.

Peavey IPR would be perfect for you. They weigh 7-10 pounds and have plenty of power for your usage. I'd get two IPR2 3000, since you need the 3k for your subs, they're not that much more than the 2000 and having two would be better for redundancy.

Don't bother with the DSP versions, buy external DSP.

I will buy one or two dbx Driverack PA+ or PA2. Should I use DSP for controls as well or just for FOH? (I am talking about small gigs, 50-150 people)

I use 2 IPR 3000 ( non-DSP) with a DEQ2496 and DCX2496 for my mains.
On some gigs I bring only 2x T39 and 2X Otop12's. For larger gigs I use the same amps and 4xT39's 4xOtop12s. Works Great.
I also use a separate amp for monitors. I happen to have an old Crown XL1500 which works well and gives me 2 mixes. I could run 2 T39's off of one channel of an IPR using the other one for monitors but I prefer having the option of doing that if one of my amps dies. Always nice to have options when you are at the gig site w/o having to go get more hardware. I am also considering ditching the crown and getting two smaller 1U amps for monitors which would give me 4 mixes. ( Sometimes I work with acts that need that)
I have a small 8 U amp rack which is under 30 lbs fully loaded. My back loves it!
What are you using for your mixer?

Actually I am using an old Yamaha mg 166 cx that works well. I am planning to turn to digital mixer. I asked and got valuable advices in mixers forum.

I want to keep my hardware as simple as possible. It has to be enough for small gigs. There are professional staff and enginiers on Largen venues.

So 2-4 x DR 200s 1-2xT39 and 4xWH8 will be enough I hop so.

If necessary I will buy a new 6-77 rack case.

You're going to a new digital mixer, which will have ample outputs.
I don't quite understand why you would want to put all 4 x WH8's on one monitor send, for the sake of not adding a few more lbs/kilos and 2 more rack spaces in the amp rack.

One monitor ch is becouse of simplicity and the other hand there is no need for more channel. But you are right, more channels give us more flexibility. I will take it into consideration.
So I will need 3 Amps.
2-4x DRs(1-2/channel) - min 300W/CH/ 8 ohm
2x T39s (1/channel) min 450W/CH/ 8ohm
4 x WH8s (2/channel) -min 300W/CH/ 8 ohm

(3 x IPR 3000)

You don't need that much power for WH8's.

Just check your plans again.
If you used a Beta 8 in your builds, it reaches Xmax at 100Hz with 60 watts.
So a Crown XLS1000 is plenty...

And your tops to subs ratio are AFU. Indoors, 1 top to one sub will work, but if you are doing any outside gigs, at least double the subs are needed. 3 amps will work for you, 1 amp can run all 4 DR200, 1 amp for 4 T39, and 1 amp for 4 WH8.

DO NOT FORGET TO SET PROPER LIMITERS ON YOUR SUB CHANNELS!!!

One more question /dilemma...

I have an amp that is maybe unknown in US but sound quality is good (Powersoft module is inside).

8ohm = 2 x 370W; 4 ohm=2 x 750W. http://www.garry.hu/index.php?id=pc1504

It is 2U but just 1/2 rack wide, so 4 channel could be in 19" and 2U.

One option is to keep current amp and buy an other one (same) for 2 T39s and 4 WH8s and buy a Crown XTI, XLS or something simmilar for DR200s.
Then 4U would be enough for all 3 Amps (6 channels) and other 2U for my two Driveracks. 6U compact enough for me.

I would like it, but I am not shure.. What is your view? Would 370W/8ohm be enough for a T39?
