Amp for Table Tuba with two 8 inch drivers

#1 Post by icegoat »

So I am going to build a 24 inch wide table tuba (from a flat pack) with two 8 inch drivers. The drivers are MCM AUDIO SELECT 55-2421.

I am considering a Dayton Audio SPA250 for my amplifier. I am planning to wire the drivers in series.

Is this a good driver/amp pairing?

Would it be better to build the amp inset into the cabinet (flush mount) or to mount it some other way that does not interfere with the integrity of the cabinet?

It is not advised to put the amp in the cab.
There's a number of reasons:
The amps volume changes the geometry of the cabs horn, or the driver chamber, or both.
It may not have been built to withstand being subjected to heavy bass.

Adding sufficient material to incorporate the amp into the cab without altering cab integrity means increasing the cabs size uneccesarily.

General advice is to mount the amp in it's own box, connected to the same power outlet as the rest of the equipment the rest of the gear is in, to ensure no introduction of ground loop hum...
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...
