Amp for Pioneer DDJ-SX & 2 DR280's + 2 series wired T60's

#1 Post by Tweakings »

I've been writing lately that I want to build (2) DR280's 3012HO & (2) T60's dual loaded Lab 12 series wired 39 inch cabs 16 ohm.

h/t goes to sine143 who recommended 2nd hand Itech9000hd as a nice match for the series wired Lab 12s (or iNuke's as bare bones).

My question is, would I need an additional amplifier for the (2) DR280's? I'm thinking not, that the 9000hd will do the job.. but I could be wrong.

I'm posting a follow up question in Pro Sound Setup.

If you absolutely must use a single amp then it would be prudent to series wire your cabs and use a big amp like the Itech 8k, or 9000hd. In this case you can run 2x dr280 (honestly even 4x dr280) on ch 2 with about a 15 to 20db reduction in output via the dsp.

I dont think you understand how MASSIVE a 39x30x60 inch cab is though. Thats the type of cabinet you will never move alone. ever. I cant imagine going bigger than 31" wide (30 inch internals) on the t60 (this also makes the best use of 5x5 sheets of ply). To go 39 inches wide, you are going to need almost twice as much plywood.
Built:
2x Tuba 30s delta12lf loaded (gone)
4x Otop12 d2512 loaded
8x t48s (18, 18, 24, 24, 30, 30) 3015lf loaded
2x AT (1 mcm, 1 gto 804)
2x SLA Pro (dayton pa6, 6 goldwood piezo loaded)
1x bastard XF208

2x OT212 (delta pro 450a loaded, eminence psd)

Absolutely!Huge! I've seen videos of the Tuba60 on youtube. It's seems ridiculous, I know; it's in my nature/spirit to attempt the seemingly unattainable, I plan to live a long life.

keep in mind all the videos you have seen (other than zefrens) are about 25 to 30 percent smaller than the one you are planning.

Indeed, I am a bit weary of building two Tuba's like Zefren's (I just looked at the video again, the one on his parking lot). It's going to be quite the show when they're built, though. It's worth the investment and effort. If you go, you might as well go big.

You won't get it if you have to ever move your 39" T60 - there's a lifetime of back trouble right there... and don't drop it on your foot (or more importantly, head!!).
