XTI 1000 problem!!!!

#1 Post by Chris Betancourt »

I have a xti1000 and it keeps shutting down. I have to disconnect the power cord from the back and connect it back again so it would be able turn back on again.  Would a Louisville Slugger fix the problem????

Or a flight from the 10th floor.

It might be possible to hook up Bandmanager and look for an update of the firmware.
BAT10, Bad Auto Tuba. Reverse folded TAT to fit JBL 1014D, 350W driver, voltage limit unknown.

There have been some problems with early versions of the Xti amps and a flat ribbon cable connector (to the front panel IIRC). Look up your amp serial nr and search the web for that issue. There is a reference somewhere on which serial nrs can be affected by this. After that, you could also do a firmware update as Gregory suggests, but I'm not sure that would fix an issue like this that suddenly pops up. It doesn't sound like a firmware issue to me.

Edit: do any warning lights come on when it shuts down, or does it power off completely without any warning or indication?

No, it just turns it's self off all alone like if the power switch is pushed off. If there's a link to that serial # I'll check and see if anyone knows one shoot it out.
Thanks Guys.

That's the problem with some of this gear. If there isn't a reasonable level of reliability, it's of little value for live production work. When it is working, the guy who wants to make lots of noise in the backyard may find it useful.

C'mon guys quit bashing already...I have four crown xti series...NEVER a problem in years.

I would call crown they are bound to help you troubleshoot it and isolate the issue. You can also try the crown forums.

One reason you may hear about some problems is that so many people have 'em.

I had one Crown XLS DOA (when they first came out), but it was promptly replaced and the other three Crowns I've had haven't had a hiccup.

6 - T39 3012LF
4 - OT12 2512
1 - T24
1 - SLA Pro
2 - XF210

Same here, I only have one but it is problem free. There are a lot of these amps out there, not surprised every now and then there's one with a problem. The ribbon cable issue was only with an early production run and to the best of my knowledge it was quickly solved.

We have 11 XTIs in the shop, a handful installed in various venues as well. None of our amps have suffered any failures, one amp that we have installed in a venue is at Crown as we speak. I can't help but laugh at the "gotta stay away from that brand" comments.

The 2 amps that I own and had to repair the ribbon cables were not in the problem range of serial #.
I doubt the problem you are having is related to ribbon cables, the power switch is mounted directly to the main board IIRC.
