2 T-60's, either Lab12 or 15 + 2-4 Otops amp reccomendation

#1 Post by Whiterob »

So now searching for the best buy on a couple amps. I would prefer to get an amp that will power the T-60's good with headroom as it is going to be a permanent install.

I do plan to (hopefully) run 4-T60's, but will just get another amp for that when the time comes. for now just something to get the t60's pounding.

As for the Otops, I would like an amp that has enough power for four of them, as I do plan to make 2 right away, then 2 more later on for sure. Not really sure what drivers I will be using, but plan to do a big piezo array on them.

For the subs, I was wondering if that Behringer EP4000 is any good.. I mean it is Behringer, or a Peavey IPR 3000? Cost matters, but so does failure.

thanks ahead of time

On your budget I'd be going for cheap, heavy as hell old Crown. You want to see if you can get 30hz going in that room before you decide on t60.

Thanks for answering all my questions, btw my middle name is Gregory... maybe we are related.

At my other bar I dj at, we use a Crown microtech (or macro maybe? can't remember offhand)2400 & a 1200 as a backup, so maybe I can get one of those from him.. that 2400 has successfully blown 3 18" subs in about 3 months, as no limiters were set (even though there is a DBX 260 there) That is my project for tonight is setting the limiters so we don't keep blowing them.

Is that Behringer any good though? I kind of want to get all new stuff to put the 3 year warranty on if possible.

We've used dozens of ep series amps and found them reliable.

Used heavy iron. Since they don't need to be moved the size and weight doesn't matter, and many are available as others want to get rid of them for smaller lightweight options.

Borrowed heavy iron even better

I think the only complaint on a EP amp I read was yesterday, not making rated power. Not a bad record.

I believe I read that for two T60's or 48's the amp should have a "rating" of at least 800 watts / channel at 4 ohm? is that correct?I don't want to do the buy nice or buy twice thing

Yeah, but a new 800w/ch amp is a big chunk of your budget. Make a list of everything you have, and everything you need.

There's a bunch of us who would point out omissions, not so many who will make a whole list.
