Switching office to listening room

#1 Post by dragonetti » Sat Jun 20, 2020 11:22 pm

Hello

House is almost complete, would like to change what would be the office to a 2 channel listening room. More than few problems doing this and before I totally commit, would love to know what you guys think. Room is 12' x 12' with 10' ceiling with one 6'x6' window on one wall and a walled in aquarium (room divider) on opposite wall. Changes room to 10"x 12". 10' solid wall opposite of the entry which has a 4'x8' opening with no door (barn door sliding on the outside wall). Have all the drivers to make a pair of TLAH and ideally would like to place them on the same wall as the aquarium. Floor is stained concrete which is great for spills but another problem for audio. Full room carpet isn't an option, a big rug is about it for the floor. You guys think I can get the room to sound good with some treatments or just keep the boring office?

One more question, floor stand or high mount?

I will say this: the TLAH will help keep floor reflections to a minimum.
Also, if possible, try to keep no two room dimensions the same number. This helps in minimizing modes.

High mount doesn't have a footprint on the floor.

2 Corner mount TLAH along with 2 tuba 18 under stand in those openings with the mouths flush to cabinet seem okay?

I like the TLAH idea, but not the T18. Might I suggest a THTLP or a TTLS instead?

Just an in room sub is better option? Move it around for proper placement instead of rolling the dice on those 2 spots? I was just trying to keep the in room floor space to a minimum. I will end up with equipment/ amp rack with a couple of seats, room will shrink fast. None of that will matter if I cant get good room response.

Murphy's Law of Subwoofer Placement: Wherever subs look best, or are most convenient, or your wife will allow you to put them, will invariably give the worst possible result.

It's unfortunate that Mr. Murphy had to come up with that law. There are examples of subs disguised as end tables on here. Maybe that'll be an option to consider.

They aren't disguised as end tables, they are end tables, albeit without shelves or drawers.
