SLA Surrounds

#1 Post by ggallamore » Mon Oct 22, 2018 4:07 pm

Just curious...Is placements as critical for the SLA Surrounds since they are only a few inches from the ceiling? If the sound is being diffused is it necessary to have it perfectly set to the way the Dolby website shows? Newbie so just trying to learn.

Also, I know Bill and others do not recommend Atmos. Would the SLA surround interfere if I decided to go that route?

Thanks guys, George

Surround placement isn't at all critical, as precise imaging isn't what you want from surrounds. Atmos I really can't comment on, I don't have it and since 95% of my viewing is broadcast or streamed TV (and I don't have Amazon Fire) I couldn't make use of it if I did. Maybe 99%, I can't even remember the last time I used my BluRay.

Bill, your surrounds in the plans are fairly deep, is this for a reason? Or can they be made slimmer so as not to stick out from the wall so far?

If you look at the sketchup you'll see the depth is necessary for the drivers to fit.
