Overkill, or dream come true? Yes, I know the price is a deal-killer.

I don't see a price for it, anywhere. But, 96db/octave filters!

4-way, in a home setting, is just silly, IMHO. So is using delay. A 40' room has a sound travel time, @ 70°F, of slightly over 36ms. I don't care how good you think your ears are, but the time differences between 30Hz and 20kHz are so minuscule, they are scarcely measurable, let alone detectable by a humans' hearing.

I found a used listing at $6800 and it said retail was $12k.

You can buy lots of driveracks for that....

I wasn't planning on using it for the home. I was wondering if the 96dB slope combined with the other computerized wizardry within it would actually bring phase issues to a cold and quick death, as advertised.

Sure they can, along with ringing. No free lunch.

In a word, no.

There are other less expensive dsp units which have such features. I have tried a few. The higher the slope, the worse the sound, generally. I rarely use over a 24db/oct slope these days, and rarely use the same slope on either side of the crossover. Use what sounds good. If that means a 24db LR on the subs and a 12db Bessel on the tops, who cares if it sounds good?
