That is exactly what I imagined 10 years ago. 16 input is not enough for me though. They should do a 24 and a 32.

And why this ad? It did make me laugh, but WTF!

This would be ideal for me since I do a small show and only run 8 inputs max anyway. Love the onboard compression and I'm assuming EQ and effects per channel. I wonder what processing is on the master bus? Parametric EQ and limiting would be the bomb. If that was on a monitor bus too... :hyper:

I really want a Presonus board, but the downside is that in order to use the iPad - you have to first connect the board via firewire to a PC (try finding a non-Mac with firewire), then to a router.....then you get to use the iPad. It works, but is more cumbersome than it needs to be.

If they would do away with the PC requirement and just let you hook up directly to a router - it would be perfect.

Maybe this Mackie deal will push them that direction.

Huh? How many you need?
Every PC I work with has it.
( a FW card cost me less than $15 )

That Mackie mixer made me wondering if it would worth it, even if I lack 4 or 5 inputs.

Pro DL1608 :
- Each band member could adjust their monitor/in-ear from the stage.
- Not expensive if you already own an iPad. (Is 999$ the retail or street price?)
- No big setup that clutters the venue. The guy can mix from anywhere.
- The iPad could be used as a mini DJ station without using any of the physical input. I'd use that instead of bringing a PC to play background music between sets.
- The thing looks so small!
- No need for a snake: just put the mixer on top of the amp rack. Shorter signal path is always a good idea.
- Very fast setup time.

Cons :
- For bigger bands, I'd need to use a submixer, which I could live with. (That makes me wondering which channels to put in the submix. Those won't have separate DSP processing...)
- It's almost useless for recording.
- Anything to add here?

I should have specified laptops. Not many people take a desktop with them to a gig. I've looked around at stores and checked dell's site - no firewire at all that I can find.

I should have specified laptops.
You didn't have to; I assumed that;
I've found laptop firewire adapters for $14
A Startech F5U513V about $25
A Bekin F5U513V about $38
And within a couple of clicks - a Dell D630 laptop w a IEEE 1394 4-pin FireWire for $263.
A Dell Latitude E6400 has FW.
Ya gotta look betta

I'm sure there are used ones out there like the Dell 630, but I can't find anyone putting firewire in new, windows laptops. I sure wouldn't want to get locked into firewire and not be able to find a compatible PC in the future.

Hopefully, Presonus will offer USB at some point.

I wouldn't sweat that - I deal w connectivity issues all the time.
Where there is a need there will be a portal.
The E6400 is current and has FW.
