Eminence driver for Simplexx 10 cabinet

#1 Post by KR500 » Sun Jul 14, 2019 1:02 pm

I looked through the FAQ and searched the forum but didn't see if the driver I own is going to be a recommended one for the Simplexx 1X10 cabinet ?
I was going to order the cabinet from Speaker Hardware and didn't see it as one of the listed drivers at their site .
Eminence discontinued it for some reason after I bought it from US Speaker several years ago .
It is a nice sounding light weight neo speaker .
Here is the link to the Eminence PDF in case any one can take a look at it and see if is a match for the cabinet

https://www.eminence.com/pdf/Basslite_CH2010.pdf

thanks

Welcome to the forum.

I didn't look to see if yours matches, but here's what you're looking for.

Fs 35 - 55Hz
Vas 60 - 100L
Qts .27 - .50
xmax no less than 4mm

The CH2010 specs aren't all that good for electric bass. Fs is too high, xmax is too short. They're not so far off that you can't use it, but one within the spec range would work better, in any cab, not just the S10.

Okay , thanks for your response , looks like I'm looking for a new Eminence .
I use an Electric Acoustic Bass guitar with flat wounds and tube compressor playing with one or 2 amplified acoustic musicians . In other words no more high volume gigs since I'm 68 now .
No more SVT either, but I was an Ampeg guy and use the smallest Ampeg combo for small rooms now .
Any suggestions on which would be the better option in Eminence from the 3-4 options at SpeakerHardware for the Simplexx 10 ?

I'd use the Deltalite 2510. It will have more output and lower response than the CH2010, with only a few ounces more weight. However, you may find the CH2010 sufficient, so I'd use it to start, you can always upgrade later if needed.

I installed a new Eminence S2010 from US Speaker to my completed Simplexx 10 and plugged it in a Tube Works 60 amp head ( 2 6L6 power tubes ) .

Previously I used the TW amp with a 1.5 cu. ft cabinet loaded with the Eminence CH2010 and it sounded great, although I never turned the volume up much .
Wow , the Simplexx is really farting out on low notes badly . :?
I disconnected the amp and checked all plate and driver screws for maximum tightness .
Same problem, so I disconnected the TW amp and ran my Ampeg 40 watt combo amp head to the Simplexx 10 and .....it sounds great !

The Simplexx doesn't agree with the Tube amp . Too much power ?
I have to turn the tone pots just about all the way off to ease the blatting issues.
I'm looking for a new small light Class D bass head anyway since the Tube head weighs 37 pounds.
Maybe one of those small TC Electronics heads.

The difference between 40 and 60 watts is imperceptible. Too much bass EQ might explain it. Loaded with the 2010 the S10 can take 150w without reaching xmax at 50Hz, and even where xmax is most easily reached, 70Hz, it can take 70 watts without reaching xmax.

There was some mismatch going on with my TubeWorks tube amp and a Tube compressor I was using .
The Tube compressor works great in front of my Combo Ampeg, but not the TW amp .
Plus there is no active/ passive pad on the amp and it weighs 38 pounds anyway .
Just got a TC Electronics 250 amp head today and the Simplexx 10 works GREAT with the new amp .
Thanks Bill, for a great sounding cabinet design , also to Leland Crooks for his help and products.
I am a happy camper , it is nice to hear that lower octave reproduced .

I have a BM200 (200 watts) and it sounds pretty great for such a small units. TC Electronics really know their stuff.
