Simplexx wedge drivers

#1 Post by tvent » Tue Dec 11, 2018 7:32 pm

Thinking toward the future, I may end up building some Simplexx wedges for stage monitor use.
(Yes, I know I have other projects planned - but...)

Trying to decide on whether to go with the 10 or the 12. I like that flat response of the 10, but the slightly higher and lower output of the 12 is attractive too.
Size/Weight wise, they don't look dramatically different on paper.

Oddly though, while looking over the posted specs from Eminence, the 12 has a 3.5mm Xmax where the 10 has a 5mm Xmax.
Does that sound right? Is there a typo in the specs? If this is right, would the extra 30% Xmax give the 10 any advantage?

Here's the specs if anyone wants to check them out:
http://www.eminence.com/pdf/Beta_10CX.pdf
http://www.eminence.com/pdf/Beta_12CX.pdf

Would have made more logical sense to me if it were the other way around.
Anyone have any idea what is going on with these?

Thanks,
Tim

Don't compare xmax with different size drivers, compare Vd. You also want to look at the xlim/xmax ratio. The lower that is the greater the possibility of smacking a coil.

Thanks Bill. Again - you come through with flying colors! Great info.
Now I see - there is slightly more Vd with the 12, but that ratio is pretty much DOUBLE!
