Vintage Grill Cloth for Simplexx 212

#1 Post by silky smoove » Wed Nov 01, 2017 9:44 am

Has anyone come up with a good way to use vintage grill cloth on a Simplexx cabinet that won't block the corner ports?

I was initially thinking of the typical "picture frame" method like you'd find on a lot of vintage Ampeg and Fender cabinets, but I'm worried the corner ports will get blocked too much.

You could either build a grille out of 1/2" Oak the same size of the front of the cabinet and wrap it, i would recommend bracing the frame as 1/2" material may warp from the grille cloth material over time.

Another option is to build frames similar to the picture on the Simplexx front page and wrap it, just add 1/2 - 3/4" to the outer panels and extend the front to flush or recess the new grille to add a clean appearance.

Keep in mind the folded grille cloth material on the back side of the frame will take up a bit of space, measure accordingly.
