Simplexx 1x12 recommneded height from floor

#1 Post by Roxbororob » Wed Sep 30, 2015 10:23 am

I plan to make or buy a portable stand for my (almost complete) Simplexx 1x12. Im using it for bass guitar and would like to keep it as low as possible. What would be the minimum height recommended to avoid coupling to the floor?

Why do you want to avoid that?

6 - T39 4-25" 2-22" 3012LF
4 - OT12 2512 Melded/NSD2005
1 - T24
2 - XF210

To avoid exagerrated boomy bass. Bill recommends raising the cab for this reason in the plans but is not specific as to how much. PA speaker stands are quite high and I belive audiophile stands are at least 16-18". I was hoping for something lower since I will eventually stack two 1x12 simplexx. Id like the whole shebang to be very portable, stable, and boomy free.

Edit: I will eventually stack two 1x12 simplexx with the amp on top.

Read your plans again:
For PA use flatter response is required, so a different woofer is used, the Eminence Beta 12 CX. This is a coaxial driver, used along with the Eminence ASD 1001 high frequency driver or the equivalent, which screws into the back of the woofer...The response rise from 70 to 120Hz would make the cab sound boomy when placed on the floor for electric bass or keyboards, so it’s not recommended for that use.

Ahh. You know I read it a few time but still misunderstood. Only in the case of th coaxial speaker.
Thx Bill.
