DR250's, GoGo Dancers, and Chimpo (UK) (EDM DJ)
Just for fun, here is a treat that has all 3!
4 DR 250's used as Texas headphones (monitors) on my custom stands that I made for them (build in signature; page 7). Chimpo is a popular (with the kids) UK EDM DJ that is touring NA presently. Before the show I asked him to give me an honest review of his monitor rig before he left, he said "Why, is it new?". I said "Yes, just something we are trying out, you're the guinea pig". After the show he he came to me and said, "Those monitors are so F$#%#$g Clean!". His only advice for the next time I used them was to take the treble down just a hair, but the concept was solid! Fair enough as the tune I used on them was the same as when I use them to carry the room and he was only 4 feet from them. It wasn't overly bright but I guess when you stand in front of them for 90 minutes it could be. I have heard his same remarks from many many people (clean) when used as mains, but it is always nice to get an unbiased review from someone with experience listening to lots of system. This was also the first time we used them as DJ monitors, 4 work very well for that role! .
(For anyone who thinks this is overkill, there is such a thing as a volume control. The pattern control from the stack kept reflections to a minimum and they sounded cleaner than any other monitor rig I have heard, Chimpo thought so too!)
Video is a little washed out, it is much much darker in that room than it appears

It all started when one of my DJ buddy's showed me this picture of the monitor rig at Red Rocks:J_Dunavin wrote: wait... four DR 250s... as monitors?!
He said "it was the sickest monitor rig ever and every monitor rig should be like that!", his other promoter friend piped up that "those are line arrays!"
I laughed and said "those aren't even horns, lol. I can do better!"
The look in their face was "ya right", I think they are believers now as they were both at the chimpo show and checked out the rig .

FWIW, the gogo dancers are dancing on my dual T60's, however they weren't plugged in that night . They were just used as platforms.

Re: DR250's, GoGo Dancers, and Chimpo (UK) (EDM DJ)
The stage volume was very reasonable and much cleaner sounding than your typical powered speaker on a stick. They were crossed over at 100hz with the PA subs providing the low end fill. A quick polarity swap was done to check for best summation at x-over freq. I also tried with the top 2 boxes muted and it sounded better with all 4 going.Drey Chennells wrote: I just cant imagine how their noggin isn't pure mush

with you operating the system I know that's the case, I'm just saying the potential horsepower there is... sufficient for mush ; )CoronaOperator wrote:The stage volume was very reasonable and much cleaner sounding than your typical powered speaker on a stick. A shame you couldn't use them as the mains.

That was just one event, they get used several times a week as mains:AcousticScience wrote:A shame you couldn't use them as the mains.
You need other rigs to be used once in awhile, makes you appreciate how good the sound you have is!
