Relay for Life walkaround 5/14/16

#1 Post by David Raehn »

Here is my walkaround of the setup I used at the Relay for Life in King George County VA.

I needed to provide 360° coverage of football field and running track so I set up scaffolds and created a hybrid array consisting of 4 forward firing OT12s, 2 side firing OT12s and a trusty pair of Mackie SRM450s firing straight back.

I had my usual group of 4 T48s as well as a pair of Wedgehorn 8s for the stage monitors.

Only one of the scheduled bands got to play before a strong band of thunderstorms rolled through and ended the event. My canopy was destroyed and a lot of gear got wet, but I don't think there was any permanent damage.

For me, it's just the usual outdoor gig.....

The video was just a way of checking out my coverage. We weren't at war volume, but it was crisp, full and clear throughout the venue.

There was just a bit of comb-filtering across the front because I'm not using the correct compression horns. Those will be corrected by the fall.

Ha Ha! No comments indeed!

I went through this thread, looked at the pictures, and then watched the video - having watched the video, I closed the Youtube window but because the link opened in the same window, the thread disappeared.......

Very unusual. It's hard to tell from the video if filtering is occurring but I suspect it would get worse as you turned up the volume and increased the chances of reflections. The main benefit of this setup is the different designs don't interfere with each other and it's a shame about the weather.

Would a T48 loaded to the ground get better gain than a VPlate? (It is fun watching the grass move underneath a Titan)

V-plated would do better, but I had to keep them on the carts this time due to VERY soft ground. It had rained here like 34 out of the last 40 days..... :(

Sorry, I don't do Youtube so didn't look.
The pics you added though look like a great solution to the set up problem you had, and the result sounds like a win :)

I don't understand this statement.
Even having the correct compression horns doesn't prevent comb filtering...
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

Sorry. Meant to say notches in the center coverage. Ended up sounding like the combs as I walked around. My current horns are designed for horizontal mounting and in their current position have a wide vertical pattern and a narrow horizontal pattern. Once I install BFM horns, it will not be a problem.
