OTop 12s - Outdoor Acoustic show

I provided sound for Wade Bowen's outdoor acoustic show last weekend. I'm always talking about the vocal clarity of the OT12s, so here it is.

I split the subs about 40 feet, mostly to use as speaker stands as the show was all acoustic guitar and vocals. There was still a little content down there and there was music before the show and between sets.

About 350 people were there - here's some pics of the setup and a link to the short video....it was just shot with an iPhone, but you can hear the clarity of the vocals. I was way off axis at FOH. The conversion over to youtube added a little squeekyness on the top end - but you can still hear how the vocals sound like he's right next to you.

Any comments from Wade, or any of his people?

Wade was very nice and thanked us for working the show. He seems to just trust what's happening at FOH. Of course, they are used to going into theaters where high-end sound is provided.

His tour manager does sound check. He brought the guitars and told me what he wanted in the monitor mix....we spent about 5 minutes on it, then he said it was good. Wade and his guitar player never said a word about monitors all night, so I guess they were good.

The tour manager never even got near the mixing board....I kinda' expected him to have some suggestions, so when I saw him close by after a couple of songs and went and asked if everything was ok, he said it sounded great.....and that was that.

Love it,
Thanks for sharing Bruce.

I'm guessing that's not Wade onstage...

Diggin' up my old thread here to update. Wasn't able to do this show last year, but got the call again this year.

Wade Bowen was the headliner again, but here's a clip of Haley Cole. The OT12s were, once again, amazing. I only put one sub under each side as the wind was blowing 20mhp from behind the performers.....that's why the trailer is parked back there. The wind noise you hear is from the iPhone mic, no the PA.

I was off-axis by a bunch. It actually sounded much better as you moved toward the middle.

And yeah, I fixed that little bit of "P"-popping......no sound check, plug 'em in and play - had to do fixes on the fly. She's really a talented young lady.

Lots of good compliments on the sound. It was all acoustic and vocals - the clarity was perfect. You could understand every word.

Wow...seems like it was throwing like crazy. I really want to spend more time tweaking my OT12's, even doing the sound check with a solo vocal or spoken word track and get that sounding really good. I remember you mentioning in another post long time ago about getting the vocals right first because that's going to be the most important thing the audience will remember. I'd actually hoped to do that for a gig I had last evening, but didn't have time to.

Regarding the performance...amazing. Amazing vocal chops there.
