2 T39s and 2 Omnitop 12s

#1 Post by 88h88 »

Today we got to play in one of the local church halls. Shout out to St Osburg's for letting us use their hall for the princely sum of zero quid for a few hours and letting us just crank them as much as we liked.

Today was the first occasion they've been ran in anger in a room bigger than a double garage. A week previous they were used in a fair size hall but the volume had to be kept low which meant the system was barely registering as on. Today though we had the system hitting I think it was 116Db at pretty much the length of the hall which as you can see in the videos is very long, pretty damn wide and stupidly tall. All the room contained was 4 12" drivers and a couple of stacks of piezos. For them to be hitting such volumes is quite frankly ridiculous and I'm fairly sure somehow breaking the laws of physics. The classical stuff sounded amazing, the tops are just so so clear and the Schindler's List theme had me a bit misty eyed.

Anyway...

All I can say dayyyyyyyyum but now I want more subs. :chainsaw:

Nice vids. Does the church allow partying?

Get the v plate and corner / wall loading organised before you build more subs. I don't know that a V sans plate is a terrific way to wall load. 30deg off the wall gets you a mouth extension and boundary all in one.
BAT10, Bad Auto Tuba. Reverse folded TAT to fit JBL 1014D, 350W driver, voltage limit unknown.

Well it's a church hall, the church is next door so all the services take place there and this is the place where they hold functions and what have you. Most church halls can be rented out for occasions though it depends on what the intended purpose is, last weekend my girlfriend had rented a smaller hall for her little girl's 6th birthday. I'm not entirely sure an event involving booze would go down well! That said there's a club up the road from me which rents out their room for £50 an evening and at some point I intend to arrange an evening of music for friends there, it's smaller and thusly would get crushed by this setup.

As for v-plating we wanted to but currently don't have the ply for it. There's a massive sheet in the workshop but it's not quite massive enough! Oh and I checked Bill's instructions for wall-loading and after a brief play with them v'd in the centre of the room they were moved to the wall where they got a fair bit louder. The floor in a good 20ft radius was vibrating pretty well and during some of the bassier tracks the subs managed to move themselves apart under the force of air they were kicking out.

I take the builders bum comment back. Can you play Ecuador by Sash?

That bum belongs to Andy my partner in audio crime, he posts on here on occasion and has already been alerted to his bottom now being youtube famous.

If I get to use the place again at some point soon I'll take requests, need to play about with camera placement too as it was mostly situated right down the back of the hall about 10ft from the rear doors and thusly doesn't sound quite as meaty on video as in reality. I think in the new year I'm going to have to just throw a private party somewhere and will endeavour to get as much video evidence as possible. What sort of thing is required? I tried to get the RTA readings on video to show how silly things get as well as audio from the room. Any other requirements for what makes a video worth watching when it comes to BFM kit?
