Pleased with the progress today. Got panels 3,4 and 5 in. 6’s are cut. Everything is lining up really well. I put some little guide blocks on the baffle to make lining up the drivers spot on when the time comes. Need to find my stash of popsicle sticks. Going to glue them in as guides for the braces to make it really easy to drop them in position. Need to borrow my friends biscuit cutter to join plywood for panels 7, since my pieces are a couple inches short. Did that last time and it worked well.

I took a lazier way out.....I just shot brads from the outside of the panels and laid the braces on those.....

I take it that the brads don't resonate?

I use strips of an HDPE cutting board that I cut up to use a jigs and guides. PL wont stick to it. I just tack them in place with a couple brads then pull 'em out with a flat head screwdriver once the PL sets. Although, popsicle sticks sounds like a fantastic idea. Light weight and can just leave them in there and not have the step of removing anything. I like it!

I am probably not telling anyone anything they don't know, but make sure you PL the crap out of the popsicle sticks. The last thing you want is something that is able to vibrate/move. Bruce's brad solution works great for my methods. Your cabs look great.

Nah.....the squeeze out from the braces is all over 'em binding them to the brace. Anyway, I doubt those skinny little brads sticking out 3/4" would catch much air.

Actually, for stuff like that (flat, long grain to long grain), you can't beat regular wood glue like Titebond. Anytime I laminate layers of plywood together, wood glue is the best. For edge glued joints, and places that need to be absolutely airtight, only PL will do, as it expands and fills small gaps and imperfections, while still allowing a little flex. The braces will go in with PL, so the squeeze out will end up all over the popsicle sticks anyway.

I took the long and cumbersome road on a few cabs that I built: I routed dadoo slots for the braces. It was some extra work but it did help a lot, particularly on the T18 that I did in 9mm ply (3/8") rather than the original 12mm (1/2"). It came out well and I wouldn't be surprised if it were the lightest T18 on earth.

Dados would be cool, but I am not feeling that ambitious right now

Well crud, no idea where the pack of popsicle sticks went. But......... I found coffee stirrers!!! :hyper: Even better, they're longer and narrower. I glued and tacked some in and it looks like they will be perfect to drop the braces onto. Also cut my panels 7s now that the biscuited glued up edges have cured. Next up will be to install panels 6 and 7 - perhaps tomorrow.

You are right, it was quite an undertaking. I learned a lot along the way.

The dados helped a lot, made it super easy to slide the braces in place and they were not going anywhere. They tend to move if you don't shoot brads. Or use popsicle sticks :cowboy:
T18 in 9mm ply with dado
T18 in 9mm ply with dado

I decided to double up on the braces, because of the thin panels. Removed a lot of material to keep the braces light.

Hope you are still making noise with them, Anton! I love the way my first pair sound - can't wait to double the herd.

Panel 6's are installed. Amazing how square and perfect these are going together.
Coffee stirrers glued up on panels 7 and down. Will make braces from my pile of 5/16" 6-ply baltic. Haven't yet decided if I'll do long ones like last time, or the multiple short piece version like shown on sketchup. We shall see. This thing is so sturdy and flat so far, braces almost seem unneccesary, but I SHALL FOLLOW THE PLANS. Hasn't failed me yet
Also seriously considering just a single access door. I think I'll have enough room to mount the 3012s from one side without much difficulty. Part of the reason I already put in the little blocks to align the drivers when the go in.

Next tube of PL is feeling a little hard. May need to pick up a fresh tube. Bought a couple cases when they were on sale for a buck a tube a while back - might have a dead soldier in the bottom of the box. Will wait to glue in panel 7s...

Had enough PL to pop in the 5/6 braces tonight. Coffee stirrers worked like a charm, soooo much easier than the way I fought with them last time around. Just slid them in on top which kept the perfectly level, couple pins, and done.
