First BFM build: SLA PRO 4x6
Re: First BFM build: SLA PRO 4x6
Looking good Linus
If any of those holes aren't sufficiently covered by the array, just cut out a plug with the jig saw and glue it in place. After it dries, make the tweeter body clearance cut with the jig saw.

Re: First BFM build: SLA PRO 4x6
Thanks for the tip Seth!
It seems that it will all be covered by the array, have to put some silicone to be sure its not leaking tho.
I have pretty much never used a router in my life, the one i use now i borrowed from a friend.
I thought is was impossible to make the 145mm diameter cuts when the radius of the router base is more than 72.5mm, but once now and then i apparently get really stupidly lucky...
Found a hole in the base of the router that with a 13mm "drill?bit?" got slightly over 72mm radius cuts, that will make a perfect fit for the 144.5mm diameter that the alpha 6a has.
Newbie luck i guess, feels fantastic because i did not want to make all the woofer holes with my crappy jigsaw!

Probably too late, but if the router holes came out perfect, use the baffle to make a template for future holes.

In the weeks i am pretty busy with other stuff, but managed to attach sides and top on both cabs yesterday.
Very excited to hear them now, cant wait

Re: First BFM build: SLA PRO 4x6
Small update, first layer paint on, warnex on the outside and spraypaint on the inside/baffle.
Will sand it down manually with 300 papera and put 2 more layers of paint on i think.
Just ordered drivers and NL4s

And these corners you can see but not feel the joint between the plywood. I think this will be fixed with some more sanding and extra layers of paint. The router made a great job!

Re: First BFM build: SLA PRO 4x6
When you sand, the sawdust gets in that little crack so that it feels totally flat, but when the paint hits it, it absorbs into the sawdust leaving the indention. So, after sanding, use some air to blow out the line, then fill it and re-sand.
We've all done it.....

Re: First BFM build: SLA PRO 4x6
On cab's I build, that drives me nuts and I go a little overboard in preventing it by skimming the entire cab with filler then essentially sand it all off before doing spot fills and a final sanding. I like my edges to give no hint of which panel overlays which. I haven't always been entirely successful. But, I'm getting better at it.
The good new is, the average person typically wont see the blemishes we, as the builder, see.
Bruce, great tip! I hadn't heard that one. Will add it to my personal finishing regiment

Re: First BFM build: SLA PRO 4x6
All drivers mounted, and wiring done.
Grille will look something like this, with metal behind and magnets to hold it down, not done yet tho :/
Tested the cabs and no airleaks or any problems!
Will do a proper review soon after some more testing but so far i am very impressed with these!
Very loud, "warm, clean and full" sound with good hifi feeling. Not like any other PA cab i ever listened to. Great midrange overall and treble is all there, clear but maybe a bit shy, they dont need EQ but i will probably make adjustmenst depending on where they get used.
I will post more pics after finishing paint and grille is done
Overall very pleased with this design, the help and tips/tricks from this forum. Thank you all!
