SLA Pro modified guitar combo.

#1 Post by Strange Kevin »

This isn't going to be much of a build thread but I told myself I was going to post this here so, here we go... :noob:

I ordered the parts on a Parts Express buyout special about 8 or 9 months ago, and am just now getting around to putting this together.
They still have the little 5w "footnote" amp for around $10-15, but I can't find the little 6.5" Eminence guitar speakers anymore. As tested, Alpha 6 drivers would work well too.

As stated in the title, this based off the 2×6 SLA PRO plans.
Main differences, no port, no tweeters, no X-over, oh and there is an amp shoved in the side.

The hardest part was the roundover around where the amp is recessed on the side. The bering on my roundover bit is too deep to route after the cab was completed so I clamped the side piece to the edge of my work bench and gave it shot.
I guess as to be expected, it didn't come out that great and took a fair bit of sanding to get it back to shape.

I forget who said it but. " A sander and Paint make the woodworker I ain't" :)

The mini SLA pros take so little wood I was able to make the whole project out of my pile of scraps ( it is a big pile though..)

The grill cloth was left over from a recent XF212 build.
For some reason both of my staple guns have gone missing so I ended up hot-glueing the fabric to the frame. It actually worked well, but I would still recommend staples if you have any.

The drivers are offset just for the fun of it...

Its pretty much done at this point, I just need to order a handle, add feet, and find someone to 3d print me a cool logo for the front.

I haven't tested it yet in its final form yet. I'm waiting on a new power supply.... :bash:
But I remember testing it when I first got the parts back in the day with a built to spec 2×6 SLA and I like the results.
If I miss the ports on the combo, I can always add them back latter.

That's all for now.

That's a cool little box! Great job on the woodworking. What are you using it for? Electric? Acoustic?

Neither, I'm a bass player. :)

This project was mostly for the fun of it.
Although my little brother plays a mean guitar so I may end up shipping off to him.

Id say with the current drivers its voices better for electric, but I don't see why one couldn't build it for Acoustic guitar as well.

Haha, thanks Bruce! :)

Here is a link to the parts used. The drivers are no longer available though. :(
You can get the amp with or without the 9v power supply.

Nice, I like it!
And I'm not a guitarist of any description, well, wait up, I play guitar badly...
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

Great job on the cabinet! Nice little amp. I bought a couple of those as well. Hard not to for the price.

Tube Depot bought all of the remaining Eminence 6 inch drivers that went along with those. Selling them for $40 instead of the $12 Parts Express was asking. I bought a few as it seems like a really nice small guitar driver for $12, if you have a need for one that size.
