Omni15 Tall Boy
Haven't seen allot of these in the build threads so I'll do my part and add mine.
Truly a fun build once a final direction was chosen. Easy, lots of fun and the sound...
All I can say is "WOW" I heard every note clear as a bell! Very defined! This bass cab is happy to reproduce and does it with authority! I brought it out to practice last for proof of concept and the feedback was nothing short of spectacular! Our bass player is very picky about his rig/sound, he absolutely LOVED this cab! He grinned ear to ear and loved the 15" driver (Kappalight 3015). This cab will replace his overweight Trace x2 (1x15 4x10) cabs. And because he's such an awesome dude, I gifted him the Omni. I had gotten out of it what I wanted... "the build" now he can have the rest!
A huge thanks to Bill for designing this monster!
Enjoy the pics

Sorry the pics aren't in order...
Re: Omni15 Tall Boy
Very cool! I've been considering a TallBoy build myself, partly out of curiosity and partly because these builds are a lot of fun. Was yours done from current plans? I thought that square driver opening was a prior version...

Re: Omni15 Tall Boy
The plans I used for this build were from the CD I had gotten from Bill back in 2010 I checked for an update in the forum but don't recall seeing one... I could have over looked it in lue of reading O15TB threads. Even if there was an update, I'm perfectly happy with the way it turned out!ctmullins wrote:Very cool! Truly expressive note for note! Crystal clear BASS!! Defined and punchy! Guitar player said several times with a smile that it punched him in the chest!

Nice job.
If it's too loud, you're even older than me! Like me.

Tonight is the night all of us will get the chance to hear the O15TB in a live setting. We are all excited to see how this cab performs. I'll follow up with an update tomorrow... stay tuned!

One bit of advice, it has a lot more low end than a commercial cab, so chances are he can back off his bass EQ a fair amount from what he's used to.
Re: Omni15 Tall Boy
+100 Have the bass player "zero" out his EQ section. Then EQ a little at a time, until he, and someone in the audience, gets his sound. Remember, what it sounds like on stage is not usually what it sounds like in the audience, where it really matters. Play to your audience, not to your egos.Bill Fitzmaurice wrote:One bit of advice, it has a lot more low end than a commercial cab, so chances are he can back off his bass EQ a fair amount from what he's used to.

Re: Omni15 Tall Boy
Alright guys, great night, packed house, good venue & awesome music!
Our stage 'sound' was very good. Bass player really liked the new cab in a live setting but did make mention that the mid horn was a bit bright for his liking hence the eq settings mentioned earlier.
He had asked if there was a way to lower the frequency, my reply to him was... this is a high fidelity cabinet so what you are hearing is probably something you aren't used to (remember he plays through two Trace cabs 1 12" & 4 10), so this is all together a diff sound for him.
Stage vol was good, our regulars had said the sound overall was very pleasant.
I'll make mention to him to recurve his eq from a flat setting and dial it in from there which he has done off the bat after receiving his new cab (remember he's used to?)
Another note was break in... it's not fully broken in yet however, I did run a test tone through the drivers as required in the plans.
Overall, his 'new sound' was a hit!

Niiiice.
Did you have FOH, or was the back line carrying the room?

FOH at this venue. I don't care for the wedge monitors suspended from the ceiling above the stage. I always think they'll drop and fall on someone's head and I'd have to sit there and watch! A drummers vantage point!
