SLA Pro Shorty (2x6) Build (Lots of Pictures)
SLA Pro Shorty (2x6) Build (Lots of Pictures)
What I am going to do is put up all the pictures, as they pretty much tell the build story and then I will go back and annotate a little bit. Enjoy.
It sure doesn't look like much wood... These will have top hats and bottom hats so I can use them as one column and add a set of 4x6's in the future.

Re: SLA Pro Shorty (2x6) Build (Lots of Pictures)
More pics... I added top (and bottom) hats, so I reused the speaker cut outs as added thickness inside the speaker both top and bottom. This allowed me to recess the top (and bottom) hats and still have plenty of strength top & bottom.

Re: SLA Pro Shorty (2x6) Build (Lots of Pictures)
More pics... All the internal pieces are completed to the point that I can start putting the full cabinet together.

Re: SLA Pro Shorty (2x6) Build (Lots of Pictures)
More pics... Continuing putting the sides together. The 18 gauge brad nailer really helped at this point.

More pics... Continuing cabinet togetherness . Adding acoustic foam as per the plans (also known as Walmart polyester mattress topper or something similar).

Re: SLA Pro Shorty (2x6) Build (Lots of Pictures)
More pics... Building out the crossovers at this point. I put some hot glue on the bottom of the crossover boards to act as little legs. On this build I took others recommendations and hot glued and zipped tied all components.

Re: SLA Pro Shorty (2x6) Build (Lots of Pictures)
More pics... I must have been confident at this point as I took time after PL spread to take a picture.

More pics... Final sanding and Duratex painting. I just can't say enough about how easy the Duratex goes on and covers nicely. I actually enjoyed the painting process, and that is usually a little more stressful.

Re: SLA Pro Shorty (2x6) Build (Lots of Pictures)
More pics... In the last picture on this post you can see some silver showing through on the top/bottom hat. The top hat's were deeper than most and just kissed the back of the speaker. The metal on them was thick enough that I was able to grind a little off so there was a gap between it and the speaker, albeit pretty thin. I can slide a piece of paper between them. Seems to be good enough.

Re: SLA Pro Shorty (2x6) Build (Lots of Pictures)
More pics... Think we might be almost to the end.
As for the screw, don't use cheap ones. I had some small ones that were cheap, and they broke off on the speakon connectors. They were a pain in the rear to get out when the head broke off. Yes, I did it more than once .
As for the hole in the speaker, be careful when screwing it into the cabinet. I started another thread to find out how to fix it. It was a very small hole and a quick fix with some craft glue.

Ok, this is as finished as they are at this point. I need to make the grills and will add that picture once complete...
