So, I had a thought yesterday. I’ve reached the point in the build where the second side gets put on. But, I was wondering; can I install the drivers before I put the second side on? If not, why? Outside of possibly getting PL on the driver (not a good thing, I know); what are the other risks? I will be using a flush bit on the second side once the PL has cured. So, I guess possible sawdust isn’t good either. Just curious. Would be a whole lot easier (obviously), without all the trouble of cutting another window.

Well, I went ahead and installed the driver before I put the second side on. I used some 4 mil plastic to cover the driver just to protect it. I’ll keep it covered until I’m ready to install the access panel. Was so much easier installing the driver.

It won't be so easy should you ever have the need to remove it. With luck you won't, but there's always Murphy's Law to consider. I made a bundle building and installing custom made replacement pre-amps into Standell amps that used pre-amps potted in epoxy, so that their components couldn't be replaced. Some genius at Standell thought that was a good idea, since the transistors they used had an advertised life of fifty years. The amps I worked on averaged five years old. :bash:

Wouldn’t it just as difficult if I didn’t cut the second access panel anyway? The screws are positioned per the instructions. So, even if I waited to install the driver after the second side was on, removing it would still suck. Lol. But, I get what you’re saying....should have cut the second access panel.

Did you get my PM?

Roger!!

Have a quick question regarding the access panel. Last time I built a THT I used a #10, 1.25” wood screw to attach the access panel. However, I was wondering; can I use a #8, 1.25” Recex screw? If not, no biggie. Just curious.

More important than the size of the screw is the number of screws and how far apart they are. Don't scrimp on the access cover screws - I usually put no more than two inches between screws.

Great! So, next question is; should I pre-drill the holes?

Wasn’t planning on it  Was going to match the last one I built.

Little update. Went ahead and pre-drilled the access panels. Figured it’ll be easier getting the panels in right. I also tested the cabs for leaks. And thankfully there was none. Glad all the PL I used work...went overboard. And, I’ve already got a coat of primer on and drying. Will Duratex next. Then I’ll get the access panels on and test form leaks again. Can’t wait to play around with 4 of these.

Lol. My room is over 7000 cubic ft, and littered with nulls. I’m currently running the two I have near field; it was the only way to really feel the bass. But, my plan with 4 is to put one in each corner and run some sweeps. I’m very interested to see if that makes a difference.

Brown pants is right. Got them all going last night. One in each corner has really made a significant difference in the bass response. I haven’t confirmed with a sweep yet, but my butt and ears tell me I’m right. I almost don’t want to run a sweep for fear that I’m wrong.... But, I know I’ll do one anyway.

So, it’s been a few months with all 4. I was right about the bass response. I’ve done dozens of sweeps with them in place. I still have a pretty nasty null, but everything else is better. I’ve pulled down 3 large peaks, and added 2 small shelf filters in the 42hz and 30hz areas. I’ve also got an aggressive filter in place protecting the drivers under 20hz. So far, I’m really loving having 4. I’m thinking my next upgrade will be Crowsons. That’ll get me full bandwidth.
