You wanted some dirty porn, here ya go
Panel 6 - disregard the 8, I had to swap panels, mistake 9 million
braces 4/6 in. Man, these were tough for me and the top one looks bad because I tried to router it without a router table or guides....just stoopid. Fixed it ok with a jig saw. Bottom brace was done first with the Jig - worked out much better. Never know unless you try
Jig to keep everything squared up.
Panel 7
7/5 braces - much easier than 6/4
Panel 8
Panel 9 - actually this is a pic of my dry run. I didn't take one after I installed it for good. Looked the same, except messier.
Panel 10, and 8/9 braces
Panel 11
Panel 12 - had to divise a brace to hold the bottom of panel 10 and 12 flush. Luckily I have some extra cedar wood lying around from my fence. Has come in handy for these types of things.
Didn't get much done today, got panel 14 cut. So, I have braces for 7/11 and 6/13 left to cut out. Then the side gets put on and if all goes well I can start sanding later on Sunday or Monday. Really has come together nicely. I'm honestly terrified about putting the side on, and once it's on hearing leaks in the cab. I've been using crazy amounts of PL, rather buy more then deal with leaks....but still, worried.
I'll post more tomorrow, or at least try to. It's easier now that I'm hosting off my Flickr account.
Wanted to add, using an 18G brad nailer is simply the best way to build one of these. I've been leaving the braces on for the most part, but the nails still help a lot in holding things in place.

The mouth is pretty rough with a few screw holes that I've sealed with PL, plus some PL residue from gloves and the carpenters square. Should I try and sand it down before I install the braces? I plan on painting it black like the rest, but I'm guessing sanding it down prior to installing the braces would be easier.

If the PL has had at least 24 hours to cure, use a sharp chisel to remove the bulk of it. Then give it a rough sanding with 40-60 grit sandpaper if you are using Duratex, and use finer grits after if you are finishing with anything else.Rowan611 wrote:The mouth is pretty rough with a few screw holes that I've sealed with PL, plus some PL residue from gloves and the carpenters square. OH YEEEESSS Rowan... That's the stuff Don't know what you were worried about... they are some nice looking pics/cabs. It can be a right old PITA to upload the images and then link to them, so many thanks for the post.
I'm sure it helps a lot of builders (me included) see pics of the whole process and see how others work round certain problems - just like the 10/12 reflector you built a thingy out of cedarwood to hold in place. Only this afternoon I have been scouring the build threads to see exactly where the egg-create foam goes in a DR250... Grant's build thread provided the money-shot that I was looking for (thx again GB). This one of the many reasons why we like pics.
Keep up the good work Rowan

Thanks. I'll be posting some more "dirty pics" here in awhile. Been working on it since 8:30 this morning. Hit a few bumps, but she's looking good.escapemcp wrote:OH YEEEESSS Rowan... Thank you - I'll give that a try tonight before I install the bottom brace for 6/13DJPhatman wrote:If the PL has had at least 24 hours to cure, use a sharp chisel to remove the bulk of it. Rowan611, is there enough PL in the top 7/11 brace on the LH side? Appearance indicate a shortage of 3-4".

Re: THT Build in progress
It does appear that way in the pic; however, I just went out to double check and you can see some squeeze out. But it isn't a lot. So, I went ahead and ran a bead along the section. Also, I have brad nails going into the other side. It's very secure, but a little more can't hurt. Thanks for the catch.Tom Smit wrote:Rowan611, is there enough PL in the top 7/11 brace on the LH side? Appearance indicate a shortage of 3-4".

Re: THT Build in progress
Well, got braces for 6/13 done along with the horizontal brace. Test fitted the second side and instantly knew I was in trouble. Somewhere during the build I went really off of square, and I'm guessing it was panel 1. So, I had to do a little cutting and pasting
I was really bummed and upset. But, my wife was kind enough to remind me that this was my first build and it was fixable. Helped me put things into perspective.
In the end it works. Bought 200lbs of solar salt to stick on top for some piece of mind once I get the side on with PL and nails.
I'm still worried about getting a good seal. I've checked how the panels line up with my initial drill holes and I was only off on 3. So I'll get those lined back up and go for it.
Sorry, no pics today.

Side 2 is on, fingers crossed, terrified
Thats 200lbs of solar salt on top. I have exactly 11 screws in the middle plus brad nails. Around the edges I just brad nailed about every 2"-3". Looking up where the driver will sit I can tell I have good squeeze out and suck down. I didn't miss any of the screws or brads that went into panels 2,4, and 5. So, that gives me a little assurance.
Guess I'll know once I run a tone through it. Thanks for all the help I've received during this process.

Re: THT Build in progress
Great looking build! Regarding panel 8/9 swap, i feel your pain. I just started, and already cut panel 1 wrong! I had angle backwards and didn't want the "B" side of the wood out, as I intend to stain. So I'm already fuming and dead in water LOL. Anyway my contingency plan is to cut panel 6 about 1/2" longer and shorten 1. Of course that still went south and i'm maybe 1/16 to short. Probably not worth crying about but when you're trying to be careful and measure that many times and still miss, ooof!Rowan611 wrote:You wanted some dirty porn, here ya go
