I am in the process of building 2 wh 8's with the delta pro 8a drivers and also would like to paint the tweeter arrays. How did you prepare them for painting?(do you have to remove the elements from the back to do this ?).
No worries.

Yes, to paint the piezo's, remove the screws from the back and carefully remove the back and the element. Set them aside somewhere safe while you paint. I used rattle tins to paint mine.
I recommend to remove the screws by hand (ie with a screwdriver) and put them back in the same way. You don't want to strip the piezo bodies. Don't ask me how I found that out!
heavybdrums wrote:also a newbie question about forums here: i am having problems posting pictures on here, when i try to it says the image is too large to post. How can i get pictures to post on here ?
Just to show you, hit the quote button on your reply above this post.
You'll see links to my photobucket account for the image. That's how I put up images.
You can upload images directly to the forum, but the pics have to be the right size.

Not a problem with photobucket.
Upload to photobucket, upload, go to the pic, right click the [IMG] line (should say "copied"), then paste.
heavybdrums wrote:Curious about the grille material, is it just hardware store bought expanded metal?
We're not as fortunate here in Australia, we don't get such items at our local hardware.

Mine was ordered from the manufacturer via a reseller. I bought an 8 x 4 sheet.
Yes, it's expanded aluminium, the aluminium itself about 1.6mm (roughly 1/16") thick. I got the non flattened style, it cost less.

Any Aussies wanting to get the same material, the manufacturer is the Lockyer group and this is the 12/20 product IIRC...

so in Australia you call them rattle tins..I like it, here we call them spray bombs or spray cans in Virginia. Spray bombs due to what they do when put in fire..lol. Thanks again for all the info. Now that i know how to post pictures, some coming soon.

Well, here we go again.
3 was enough way back when, but I'm doing more, with increased foldback requirements at times (sends and consequently cab count), but not enough cabs.

Today, began cutting up ply for 3 more.
Drivers sourced/purchased (Beta 8A). Small interlocking Penn Elcom corners sourced in Australia.
Right now, shipping, import charges and the time it's taking for orders to arrive from overseas are not representing any significant savings at all.
Over the last couple of years I've managed to get some trade accounts. One, an electronics supplier, covers Neutrik, Dayton amongst other things, including Daichi 1016's. Pretty much identical to Goldwoods, but 3K instead of 3.5K for the goldwoods, and up.
Same prices, or better, and local shipping.
So, everything is going to be sourced in Australia (except PL damn it, lucky I have enough).
Sorry Leland.

I was thinking 5, but that's stretching the budget a bit for now.
Stay tuned...

So what do the bandmembers think of the WH8's? I've been wanting to make some for a semi-pro keyboardist and her bandmates. Probably the vocal model. Can you mix the vocal and full-range version?

Well, nowadays it's artists and support players.
The WH8's do vocals really well, clear and crisp, but I try to stay away from full mixes with them (and no bottom end below say 125Hz).
I wouldn't put a keyboard players left hand into a WH8 and expect it to cover that well.
The WH10's are the full range cabs.
While the 2 have different phase response, I guess you could make them work together...

Well, nearly twelve months later, the second trio are done!

The build was essentially the same as described earlier, cut up all three, assemble one, then assemble two.

In testing, at lower power, and a little tweaking, these monitors surprised me again at their full range capability.

Just in time for the gig they are required for on Friday...
