OTop 12 Compression crossover

#1 Post by lola_handycam »

Hi All

I am finishing my OmniTop 12 Build with compression horn loaded with the ASD-1001 Eminence compression.
I'll be using a DSP to filter frequencies for mid and hi
I'll be wiring a highpass protection capacitor for the compression.
The plans says to set the crossover to 2Khz but the compression specs says its usable range is 2500Hz-20kHz...
https://www.parts-express.com/Eminence- ... PI-290-525

I am using the eminence beta 12 for the Mid, and its frequency response says it can go up to 2500Hz "flat"

Why arent we setting the crossover to 2500Hz instead of 2000Hz ?

Thanks

We can go to 2kHz because we use a 4th order high pass filter. The Beta 12 can go to 2.5kHz reasonably flat on-axis, but not off-axis. Also, the Eminence SPL chart wasn't measured in a horn.

So make sure you use a steep drop off when you chose your crossover type.
