#6- I remember my grandparents had an AM/FM/short(?) and long(?)wave radio that had that green glowing "eye". That is about all I know/remember.

Tweeter positioning - NEW BUILD - Omni 15 Tall Boy in New Zealand

#47 Post by Grey Owl »

Good morning all,
I have now recessed both my Jack Plate and L-Pad.
Am now also considering recessing my tweeter for greater frontal protection.

QUESTION;
If I recess the tweeter backwards half an inch, will this change of frontal plane interfere with the planned sonic performance of the horn?
Thanks :ugeek:

It won't bother it at all. Just be sure to chamfer the baffle for no hard transition.

Yep, had one of those giant furniture radio things in the house growing up. The magic eye tube actually has its own Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_eye_tube
2xT30 (20", 3012LF)
2xT30 (21", 3012LF)
4xOtop J-array (Beta12, melded/straight piezos)
Truck Tuba (MCM)
Next up: 2xJack12 or family of table tubas

Anybody have any advice on the first part of the Question please?

EDIT
"1. How about I install two switches on the recessed P-Pad plate with the purpose to individually turn off each of the mid horn / tweeter as required leaving me with a sub which I can run with two Jack 10's??
2. Does turning the P-Pad to zero turn the tweeter off?"

NEW QUESTION:
Or, do I just leave the OT15TB running on full range??

Thanks

If you want to use it as a sub, then you HAVE to have a crossover. Preferably one with at least a 24db/octave slope. The crossover will leave out all of the content above your crossover point, which with Jacks could be as low as 80hz or so.....the tweeters wouldn't come into play at all

6 - T39 3012LF
4 - OT12 2512
1 - T24
1 - SLA Pro
2 - XF210

If it was me, I'd build a dedicated sub to run with my Jacks.
Keep your Omni TB for you...
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

I agree. Maybe even a 20" T39 which would match the 20x39 front dimension of the O15TB. (and do a far superior job at the task of sub woofing)
Build in process - 2 WH6, one Alpha 6a loaded, one PRV Audio 6MB250-NDY loaded

Two 2x6 shorty SLA Pro's
One T39, 16", 3012LF loaded
Tall AutoTuba, 20" wide, 2x 8" MCM 55-2421
TruckTuba, 8½" wide, 2x 8" MCM 55-2421

UPDATE 10 - NEW BUILD - Omni 15 Tall Boy in New Zealand

#55 Post by Grey Owl »

Hi All,
Progress has been slow.
Basically I've been teaching myself how to use a router to recess the pull handle, wheels, tweeter, L-Pad etc.
This routing is all new to me and the skool of hard knocks. Had to buy a large box of plasters for all my bangs, cuts etc. I can now work out how to do it with some success. :slap:
I've jammed glue down all the various holes in the box; it looks like the pox.
Waited the required over night and most of it just flaked off this morning with a sharp chisel. :loler:
This afternoon I started on the quietly unanticipated mid-horn with some level of success. One plate I had to cut three times before I could produce the required correct angles, even using & looking at Sketchup!! :slap:
Have attached a raft of pictures for your mirth & enjoyment.
Cheers All.

Ps:
I've been looking for 2 speakers locally to use in Jacks 10's.
The recommended Eminence Deltalite 2510 here in NZ costs NZ$420 which converts to US$250. The actual local price in the US is US$140 - big difference!
I can buy a new Proel 98NEOS10WZ8 for NZ$157 = US95. Neodymium, 10" 250w RMS 500 Watt peak 8 Ohms. This is all the info I can find find here from the Agent.
Thing is, I can't find anything else on the web showing Thiele Small for this product except as part of a PROEL factory two way speaker box. https://www.bidbud.co.nz/2612810882 which shows info on the "overall box" but a very high price.
Is the Proel product available in your country? Would you be able to do a quick search to see if full specs are available for you on line re this product?
Whilst the price may be right, it's useless without the specs.
Thanks :feedback:

Remember Bill's comment from somewhere; just do a bit each day and soon you'll have finished your project (or something like that) so I'm just doing that.
Started test fitting the first bits of hardware now.

Mate, this is looking goooood.
As Tom said, nice and steady, but there some great attention to detail, fantastic!

Gotta go get some popcorn to wait for the finished product :)

There's one tiny little thing. I see you have a dual speakon and jack plug plate.
History says that, unless you can manage to find panel mount jack plugs that are sealed (not common), that will be the one place where the cab leaks. All through these builds, we strive for leak free.

I personally discourage people from using jack plugs as they can short when inserted or removed with power on from the amp, so, please, use the speakon sockets.
Don't fret, if you're not using the jack(s) put in a couple of "blank" plastic plugs. If you can't find any of those, just buy 2 x right angle 1/4" plugs, no wire, and leave them there...

WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
