Gidday Peeps
Well on Saturday, my soldering iron crapped out and I actually found the sticker of my frustrating roll of solder on the floor!!!!!!
It says "Plumbing Solder"............. :horse: :cop:
So, bought new 30/60 switchable iron and ELECTRICAL solder. Jeez what a difference - so easy.
Proceeded to test & solder, test & solder etc. etc. and hey presto, sound at last. Yaaaahhhhhh. :)
No "Hi-Fi" stereo amp or anysuch though; just plugged into my Ampeg & let rip. It's quite trebley.
Pics attached.
I took a couple of video's of the cab in full flight but don't yet know how to upload them. They're largish files but surpisingly good fidelity for a Samsung fone.
Someone on here in the past said that you can hear each band as a separate feed - I can absolutely vouch for that!
The treble via tweet is omnipresent but the L-Pad tones that down; almost.
Actually I find the tweeter adds a width & detail of colouration that mids can't reproduce. Lovely icing on the cake really.
Mids are great.
Woofer there but as the back is still off, that will come later. I can hear the possibilites. :fingers:
I've installed an old grill that I had as protection of the woofer until such time as I get the full screen made.
I found a free on-line tone generator as recommended and put some serious low frequencies through her at voltage - it's amazing that I can actually hear much lower frequencies than I thought I would be able to. :!:
Anyway, I'm happy and moving on with closing her up and testing tone and pressures etc.
More to come no doubt.
Thank Bill for your efforts, plans, kindness & studious encouragement and to everyone else around the BfM world for their concern, support and information.
Cheers All

Well, I'll be darned if it isn't starting to look like a finished project! Look'n pretty good there David

Looking forward to a completed review!

BTW, easiest way to get video on the internet is YouTube. You can do it right from your phone, and pretty easily too. Just download the app to your phone, create an account if you don't have one or sign into your account if you already have one, then select upload video... it's pretty straight forward from there. Let me know if you have any questions with the process. After it's uploaded, post the web address of the video as a web link in a post here. Then I'll show you how to embed a player right in your posts in the future.

Hot tip for taking videos... take them in panorama (hold phone horizontally) so the video fills the screen left to right, instead of portrait style which shows up not-so-nicely for online videos. Portrait videos are fine for texting videos of kids playing and being cute to their parents/grandparents, not so good for anything else IMO.

UPDATE 19 - NEW BUILD - Omni 15 Tall Boy in New Zealand

#126 Post by Grey Owl »

Gidday Seth,
I'm still here. Thanks for your shoutout.
Long story short; I got her up and running and it sounds great.
Spent about 6 hours playing various tracks through it comparing music styles with fidelity etc.
Wrote a few reviews of each showing my ears reactions to each style etc. etc.
Took the vids, wrote out the words but when it came to uploading onto Utube, it said sumthink like "to many redirections" etc. so I spent a day trying to fix that then threw my hands up in disgust & left the premises - had a gutsfull of Google.
Then, I was distracted by more positive matters then, went away for a week and am going away again this week for 10 days.
Upshot - I love it and was soo keen to share my findings but just got feedup trying to cope with Google's nonsense etc.
Will try again when I get back.
Cheers
Ps: you're not gunna believe this but I haven't even plugged my G&L low B into yet!!!!???
Got distracted with my new aural landscape.
Once it I heard the cab operating at half volume, I knew I wouldn't have a worry in the world.

Didn't know that being from the land of the Long White Cloud meant you'd dissappear with every puff of wind.

Just joshin, hope all is good, stay well...

Gidday Pilgrims, I'm back on deck. NEW BUILD - Omni 15 Tall Boy in New Zealand

#130 Post by Grey Owl »

Hello & a big cheers for our upcoming Merry Christmas & New Year's holidays.

It's summer down here now in New Zealand; schools have finished for the year n kids have eight weeks off for sun, surf, malarky & hijinks etc. etc.... it's the fun season.

We're back in town so after a week of tidy up chores pulled out my O15TB for its virginal debut & outting.
Before leaving way back, I had run tons of tracks through it n was thoroughly impressed but unbelievably, never ever made time to plug in my G&L bass through my Ampeg for a thrash.
Was very exciting and impressive.
Then, (oh oh) I noticed a vibration buzzing sort of noise - bugger 😐😐🤨🤨😶😶.
Not so much low down but in the mid-range so I thought?
Checked the grills, amp, panels no change.
Immediately went to the dark side (don't know where that is but I found my way there) grasped the baffle etc. No change.
Drat, plus all the other military adjectives and instructive describing words I knew.
I politely hung up the bass, quietly terminated the flux capacitor, turned off the beacons n gently left the room.

It buzzes generally on all strings except low B.
It sounds summat like a Fuzzface on lowest gain setting.

I came in and prepared a glass of grain derived fluid to prevent dehydration & reduce tension!

Thoughts please my people?
Cheers

Try a different source, preferably a sine wave generator. You can download one to your PC. Sweep through the frequencies to find the resonant frequency of whatever is buzzing, which should make it easy to localize. You may need to take the back off to find the responsible part.

Are the filter components held down with hot glue as well as the tie straps?
Is the wiring held in place to keep from vibrating against objects or other wires?
DO YOU HAVE A SCREW LOOSE???? Just kidding, but, really, are there any screws loose in the wiring connections?

Tom
Everything tied, glued, nailed down.
Investigation continues. :fingers:
Also, thinking I may disconnect each speaker individually n see if anything clarifies the situation???

Just remove the offending string from the bass guitar and call it done. :D
