OTop 12 to Otop J Array

#1 Post by MikeLicht » Tue Mar 19, 2019 10:09 am

I have an old set of plans and was thinking of building some Otop !2 but the rendering of the J Array has me interested, how much difference in sound is there? It looks like there is a phase plug behind the Piezos it that accurate? I am only building one box per side for now but may add more later. Any info or opinions would be helpful

The sound is the same as the standard version. The only reason to build JArray is when you've got at least two cabs arrayed with high enough placement that the lower cab or two need to be aimed downward to cover the audience in close. The standard OTop 12 has had a phase plug for at least seven years.

If you are only building one or two per side, just build the regular OTop12s. Easier to stack for storage and you can put two on a speaker stand easily with decent stability.

I did look at the plans and there is a phase plug on the driver side of the baffle but in the picture it looks like there is also one on the outside towards the piezo array?

That's on the J-Array model.
