Speaker suitabilty

#1 Post by Kenney » Sun Sep 27, 2020 4:57 am

These eminence speakers are available locally and were used by a company called lab system.

I am wondering if they are suitable for any of these designs as a bass guitar cabinet.

Be a lot easier if you can tell us what model the speakers are.

6 - T39 4-25" 2-22" 3012LF
4 - OT12 2512 Melded/NSD2005
1 - T24
2 - XF210

I wouldn't use them in any bass cab, be it my design or not. Fs at 66Hz renders them incapable of going low enough. The spec range for the Simplexx 10 is Fs 35 to 55Hz, Vas 60 to 100L, Qts .27 to .50, xmax no less than 4mm. The range for the Jack 10 is fs 40-60Hz, Qts .30-.50, Vas 50-100L. The horn loading of the Jack 10 allows a higher Fs than the Simplexx 10, but 66Hz is just too high. The Vas is also very low, which also restricts low end response, and the xmax at 3.5mm is short, which limits low frequency output as well in a non-horn loaded cabinet. I'd say the designer's intent for that driver was for use in a small PA top, with separate subs for the lows.

They are eminence but modified for a Aussie company called lab systems. He has NOS which he is selling off now that they no longer operate.

I accidentally attached the wrong picture earlier. Bill requested I post the specs here in his forum to see if they are suitable for his designs

No worries thank you for that.

These are the speakers that were used in their 2x10 and 4x10 cabinets.

Thank you very much.

It wouldn't be the first time a manufacturer used drivers that were not up to the job in bass cabs.
