Driver replacement for beta 12. Basslite 2012 or deltalite 2512?

#1 Post by gyuripa » Sun Jan 21, 2018 10:17 am

Hello everybody!

My situation. Our drummer became a bit heavy handed lately, so I struggle to keep up with him. But because I enjoy the extra power boost I don't want to ask him to quite down, rather I would like to keep up with him. Anyway this is only 10% of our music, the rest is fine.

My question. Considering that my app is a GK mb200 with only 140w into 8ohms (once I measured the voltage and I think I got around 25v at 100hz), should I choose the basslite 2012 or the deltalite 2512? Do I have enough power to drive the deltalite? Is it even worth it to upgrade, will it solve my problem? What about tone, is there a difference?

Please help with my dilemma.

Thanks, Patrick

Changing the driver won't make that much of a difference if you're looking to get more sound. Build an extra box, such as the Simplexx 12 and use both.
In build order:
O12 with no tweeter.
3 x WedgeHorns.
2 x Jack 10 without tweeters.
2 x DR250.
2 x 16" T39
1 x Tuba 24
2 x SLA Pro (sort of...)

Since he asked in the Jack forum I assume he has a Jack 12. Yes, he should add another cab, another identical Jack 12.

Yeah, I thought so. It was basically written everywhere. I only feared this answer because I don't have time to build another Jack.

But this gives me an idea! I couple of months ago I build a Simplexx 15 sub, for small coffeehouse gigs with my manouche band, but we rarely use it since we really don't need to be that loud. I should try to add it to the Jack. Somewhere on this forum I read something about a passive crossover between the Jack and the Titan 39 for bass guitar application, but I am incapable to find it right away. Bill was it a 1st order crossover? And at what frequency would it make sense to cross over?

You don't have enough power to effectively drive a separate top/sub. You need a second J12 to take advantage of the 6dB of additional sensitivity it will give you.

Doh! Serves me right for not paying attention.

I guess my only excuse would be that anyone who has already built a Jack 12 should be well aware of how this works, so I figured it had to be a newcomer. :fruit: :noob:
