Jack 12 Lite: Best Highs Choice

#1 Post by nola50 » Tue Mar 10, 2020 8:47 am

I finally (!) will be finishing my pair of Jack 12 Lites this spring and want to use them for bass and PA. I have completed one and used it on small gigs.

Which choice should I pick for highs that will give wide dispersion and best quality of sound? Is there an option that is not in the plans that has been determined to be exceptional?

And yes, it's all subjective.

Thanxabunch!

Widest dispersion is the melded array - no question about that. Personally, I like the 1.2 crossover option with a horn for vocal clarity, etc. on a PA box. For bass....meh...don't really care for a lot of high-end anyway....

I have an OTB15 and love it's wide range for my Kubicki.

Guess I'll head in the melded array direction, which was my initial thought but I wanted to see if anything had changed.

I've built 4 Jack 112L.. Originally, two were melded, two were flat. I found that I liked the ultra-wide dispersion of the melded array enough that I converted the two flats into melded.

Those who've gone the compression drive route tend to say the sound quality is better than the piezo arrays (I don't doubt that it might be), but with the types of gigs I do, where people are up-close and around the speakers, the melded array fits the purpose for me. I love having a 'no bad seat in the house' speaker as compared to a more directional one.
Built:
4 Jack 112L- 3012HO, melded array
17.5 wide AutoTuba with Infinity 860w
6 Wedgehorn W6 w/ Panel Mount Piezos
2 T48 Slims (15" wide) with 3012LF
4 T48 Fattys (32" wide) with 3015LF

That's a deal on melded and the 1.2 crossover.

Now to chase the slice and build- won't that be fun!

You shouldn't use the 1.2 crossover with the melded array.....that requires the 2k crossover.

You can't use the 1.2 crossover with the melded array, it won't work. You can't use the 2.0 high pass for the compression driver option with the melded array either. You may only use the piezo high pass filter.
