Jack12L -question about Top Hat type

#1 Post by Lustyik » Fri Feb 01, 2019 10:20 am

Hi Folks,

I would like to install adjustable angle speaker stands receptacle for my J12Lite boxes.
Does anyone have experience with enclosed type of TOP HATs? IYO,will it fit to Jack 12 Lites?
Based on the plan, the max height is 4 inches, and this is 3 15/64 inches, but its shape is different from the regular, as you can see in the pictures below (4 9/16; 6 29/64).
.
THX for any reply!

rgs,

J

These have been installed in cabs before but not sure about the Jack lites.

Due to the shape of the hat mount, it's going to be tricky to get an air tight seal round it as it will go through the port into the driver chamber.

To ensure a good seal, I would be tempted to build a box round where the mount was going, this should be straight forward if you consider it before the build, if you have already finished, it's going to be really difficult.

There's a picture of trial fitting tilting top hats on page 5 of my J12L build, thus: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=18773&start=60

Thank you very much!

Linked build thread is excellent for me as well. I did not find it during my previous searches.

I am going to use Deltalite 2512. I have to install duct extensions to fine tune the cab to the driver. This top hat is a bit bigger size than the normal.
Could this influence the sound via decreasing the airflow? What do you think?

THX again!

I think Bill is the only person who could answer that but since the port size and length tends to be critical, I would say it will have an affect.

The reduced port area will lower the cab tuning a bit, but I doubt by enough to be a concern.

What do you think, should I increase the lower window of the buffle a bit to compensate the bigger size top-hat? I thought to increase it with 3mm. yo can see on the picture how does it looks like now.

Compensate for the lowered area by reducing the length of the extension by half.

Thank you again Bill!

Just to be sure I do what I should do. I have several questions:

In the original plan the duct extension is 8 1/2 x 2 inches but you say I should use 4 1/4 x 2 inches (I have 2512 speaker). Do I understand it correctly?

Do I have to install the 4 1/4 x 2 inches extension to the middle? In this case the ends will overhang a bit on the two middle duct braces.

Do I still have to install the two (side) duct extension brackets as it is in the plan?

Do I have to reduce the length of the duct extension only in the bottom or both of them?

I really appreciate your support.

Leave everything per the plans except the extension on the bottom. You're only looking at a few Hz of adjustment.
