I was looking into using the MCM 55-2981 for an AutoTuba build and then thought about trying them for a J210.
The specs seem to be mostly in line with those recommended. The Qts is slightly high, but the real issue is the flat response between 1k-2kHz. I'm thinking that may not be an issue for me if I crossover at 750Hz to a phenolic horn driver like the D250Ph-S. Or I may just make the horn and crossover optional since the cab will be used with a BEAD tuned bass.
Any thoughts on using the 2981? I could use 31Hz (ish) for the low B and it seems to me the 2981 may get me there sooner than the Eminence speakers. Can the low shelf at 102dB of the J210 response extend lower than the 70Hz shown in the curves?

As is the case with all tuned response cabs the low frequency limit of the J10 is defined by the cabinet, not by the driver. If you need to go lower than what the J10 charts show don't use a different driver, choose a different cab. By the same token you can't toss a different driver on the HF horn and have it work lower than the recommended driver. The horn must be able to go lower as well. To do that it would have to be too long to fit into the cab.
