Driver wanted...

#1 Post by Starchild » Thu Oct 10, 2019 12:38 pm

Me again, I got 2 DR250s and 4 DR280s under construction and was wondering if this is an ok substitute driver unit. :fingers: https://soundstream.com/product/sct-340/

There is not much in the way of specs for that thing. In one spot it says 100watts RMS and in another (on the same page) it says 50 watts max.

I'm guessing it's a cheap Chinese Eminence knock-off. Based on the lack of good info, I'd be concerned trying to use the 1.2khz crossover....

I'd try to find something better or use the 2khz crossover.

6 - T39 4-25" 2-22" 3012LF
4 - OT12 2512 Melded/NSD2005
1 - T24
2 - XF210

I did send an email to the company requesting the t/s parameters but until I get a reply this is all I got,
Frequency Response-1.5kHz-20kHz
Efficiency (1w/1m)104dB

With no size or weight specs, you don't even know if it will fit physically in the cab. Although it looks like a typical ASD1001 screw on....but, hard to tell with no frame of reference.

That company probably just slaps their own label on cheap Asian gear and doesn't actually have any expertise. A sure giveaway is that they say 'Efficiency 104dB'. Efficiency isn't stated in dB, sensitivity is.

I got one here, it's magnet diameter is 4 inches, very small and Same threading for the screw on as the ASD's

I'm sure it's hard to find quality components where you are, but I'd try to stick with Pro Audio stuff and not these car audio guys. That driver is recommended to cross at 2500hz....the diaphragm is small.

The diaphragm and recommended crossover is same as the ASD... For comparison http://www.usspeaker.com/Eminence%20ASD1001S-1.htm

Hey!
The ASD 1001 is only for the DR250.

Please don't think for a second that the ASD will work sufficiently in a DR280 though.
The HF CD horn in a DR280 is for 2 x NSD2005. They are no longer available;

Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" BP102 , 2 x 28" 3012lf.
WH8: x 3 with melded array.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

And a Nissan Versa and BMW 340i are both cars. :bash:

Don't even think about using generic drivers from unknown sources. You may not be able to get Eminence, but you should be able to get an Eminence equivalent from one of a dozen other major manufacturers with recognizable names.

Bugga, that's what goes with making comments based on older plans.
Still, wouldn't have thought 2 x ASD's would keep up with the mid driver in a 280...
