DR250 or...?

#1 Post by Robin Dobbie » Wed Mar 20, 2019 11:52 am

Talking on the PE forum, Bill steered me away from the DR300, which was a good thing, I think.

The description of the DR250 suggests options: drivers, hardware... Just trying to figure out the maximum SPL one could achieve with a DR250 that's got the 80hz tuning?

G'day and Welcome to the forum Robin :)

Because there are options, there's no straight answer.
IIRC, the SPL chart is based on the 2510 and CD's, and you could probably add around +20db to the baseline trace, maybe a tad more, for max volume.
Having said that, it will distort if pushed that hard. If you need to push it to max volume, then you need more than 1 cab per side...
Built:
DR 250: x 2 (melded array) with March 2012 plans. 2 more under way with CD horn
T39's: 4 x 20" BP102 , 2 x 28" 3012lf.
WH8: x 3 with melded array.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

Alright, good to know. Yeah, if we do it, I was thinking a pair per side, to start off with.

I had 1 dr250 a side doing an EDM show crossed over to subs st 100hz in a room that can hold about 100-150 people. The UK DJ's cranked it during their set and it was way too loud even for the young folks. I pulled out my spl meter and was reading 117 dBA 25-30 feet away from the cabinets. I dont mind 135 dB's of bass (dBC), but mids and highs above 105-107 dB's (dBA) is painful and no doubt causes hearing damage. It was quickly turned down however it was still absolutely crystal clear at that level. For their size they are some of the loudest boxes you will find.
Built:
17" width 10" driver Autotuba
2 x 29" width dual Lab12 Tuba60
6 x DR250 2510/asd1001
In progress:
2 x DR250 2510/asd1001
For best results, point the loud end of the array towards the audience
