More mids?

#1 Post by DJStubbs » Mon Jul 17, 2017 9:37 am

Is there anyway to get more mids out of dr280s? I have 4 in total stacked 2 of them have 3012ho woofers all with melded array. And I feel like the mids are lacking. I don't get much air out of the port holes and the louder I go only makes the highs ear shattering. I even turned it down to 16khz to get rid of some of the extreme highs. I run 4 off a gx5.

The problem is everyone has a different interpretation of what "mids" are. If you can't find the resolution of the problem with a third octave EQ, then you may try the CD horn.

If you are talking about the area in the 1-2k range, I know that I hear a warmer sound out of the CDs than I do with the melded array. But, that's with the NSD2005s that are crossed at 1.2k. I don't think you'd get much by trying the ASD1001 as they are pretty much crossed in the same place as the melded array.

Certainly, I'd examine the EQ before tearing up the cabs.

Now, if you are talking about mids as being down in the 300-600hz range, then that's strictly an EQ issue.

Bruce beat me to it, but in short:
What are you using to EQ the system?
What's your resultant curve look like?
What type of filter and set point are you using for their high-pass?
Good food, good people, good times.

200-600 hz? 200-16,000 hz?

"And above" isn't very specific.

Play a 100hz tone on one of them then plug in another one and makes sure it gets louder. Do that for all of them.
Built:
17" width 10" driver Autotuba
2 x 29" width dual Lab12 Tuba60
6 x DR250 2510/asd1001
In progress:
2 x DR250 2510/asd1001
For best results, point the loud end of the array towards the audience

Sorry i meant to answer a question yes i mean 200-600hz and my crossover is set up 80hz-16khz for my dr280s i want to louden up my mid section. but by doing that i am turning up the highs too.
And Ill try and run a test tone and see if it gets louder.

If that's the case you're doing it the wrong way. If you want more output from 200-600Hz you increase the EQ from 200-600Hz.
