So on more than one occasion people have remarked my lovely BFM system doesn't sound loud enough despite it pegging SPL meters at silly volumes. Direct radiating cabs add distortion, vibrations and all sorts of other undesirable things when you're looking for actual accuracy in sound.
Are there any articles/papers around that go into detail about why shitty distorted speakers sound louder?
Distorted sound = louder
Distorted sound = louder

Distortion is increased harmonic content. If it's sourced in subs and woofers that added harmonic content lies in the midrange. Now look at an equal loudness chart and all will be clear.88h88 wrote:Are there any articles/papers around that go into detail about why shitty distorted speakers sound louder?
Want it to sound louder? Boost the midrange EQ.
