SPL meter acting weird

EQ guys are using on their cabs/systems. A good starting place if you don't have your own RTA.

No spl meter I've seen has no weighting. At best you get to choose... Which do you have that can do unweighted?

I have a flat mic but I have to use an spl meter to set the level. What frequency on c weighting is closer to 0 db but still in the sub passband?

Umm my DEQ with reference mike, hitting the "meter" switch until I get an SPL screen.
I had the option of turning weighting off...

Sorry yes DEQ. Can't remember for the life of me where turning off weighting was, but positive I did that...

Hey everyone, so I bought the American Recording Technologies mic and I can confirm that the POS SPL meter I had was the culprit. It reads 20 dB higher (c-weight setting) than the POS at 40 Hz and 13 dB higher at 60 Hz. If anyone you know has any Pyle products tell them to give them away because their "C weighted" SPL meter was well lets just say a lot closer to A-weighted.

Thank you and I appreciate the awesome subwoofer Bill!

 This is what my mind was thinking when I had it near max volume and my insiders were churning like they do at a concert but the SPL meter disagreed.

 :loler: Is how I felt when I turned on the new meter and realized that the Pyle of crap (pun intended) was ~20 dB off at low frequencies.

Example picture....
If you've read my build thread post it is the same one but for those who haven't seen it.

Measurement taken at roughly 1.4 V inside in a corner at ~7 feet away. 40 Hz, so need to add 3 dB to account for the C weighting offset

Inside it's louder than heck but outside it was very quiet. Looks like I need another one. I'll post the actual measurements (outside) by this weekend as realistically that's when they'll happen.

It's not punching the eye, it's a slap behind the ear.

Yeah the DEQ has the option for no weighting, it's actually on the screen where the db meter is, I think it's the middle button on the left of the screen.

You can barely make it out on this pic I found:

Since I don't have the details my best bet is my room equalizer wizard knowledge and setting the gain at 100hz compared to my new meter. The mic is razor flat and rewarding is free :) . Its a bonus that i can tell it to calculate for a dcx and it tells me the exact eq parameters. Now I just need to figure out why my low lows (<35) are dying. I briefly measured different listening positions and haven't found any yet that are considerably better in that range. Room acoustics >.<
