Hello from Houston!

#1 Post by Philcwood »

I am looking at the Tube 18 to add bass with my 1986 LaScala’s. Will have it built to match the build of the speakers. Also using a Sansui G7000 receiver. Was thinking the sub could attach to the second pair of speaker outputs? I’m here to learn!

Thank you!

The T18 won't add much, if anything, to LaScalas. You need a Table Tuba or THT. Whatever you decide on it will have to be separately amplified. A plate amp will suffice. You'll also need to add an electronic crossover to high pass the LaScalas at 80Hz, and provide a low passed signal to the sub amp, inserted via the tape loop.

Welcome to the forum! You'll find this to be a helpful and welcoming place.

I also have a pair of 1986 La Scalas. I power mine with a Yamaha R-N803 receiver.

The La Scala certainly benefits from adding a subwoofer. I built a minimum-size (12" driver) THTLP. To deal with some of the vagaries of my room, I found I needed another subwoofer which led me to get a second (identical) THTLP. The two subwoofers are connected to the single subwoofer out on my receiver via a MiniDSP 2x4HD. I'm very pleased with the combination.

The THTLP is a very good design and is easy to build. If you send any time on the community.klipsch.com forum, you'll see that the THT and THTLPs are regarded as nearly ideal subwoofers to pair with La Scalas.

The THTLPs don't require much power (I expect 50 watts each is more than I'll ever use); I'm using 250W plate amps from Parts Express. I cross over from my La Scalas at 110 Hz.

The MiniDSP 2x4HD is a little marvel. It really allows my THTLPs to shine.

Good luck!

Welcome aboard. Great resource to learn, there are a great bunch of enthusiasts here, always willing to give advice. I'm on my 4th BFM build and I'm addicted. I have the THT, ran it with a BASH300 plate amp from Parts Express for years. Upgraded to the Dayton Audio SPA250DSP so I could EQ on board. Tons of options, read lots of posts and ask questions.
