Ryno — new from Illinois on the Mississippi

#1 Post by RYNO20 »

Bought a few plans and leaned quickly how much I don’t know . Lol
Wood working is not the problem, I’m a tool and die maker. Fixtures and saws etc simple. What is voltage and speaker wire compressors and I thought it was how many ohms
and watts is all you needed. Stop laughing YODA .

lots to learn

Welcome to the forum!
You have come to the right place if you want to learn about speakers, and how to operate them, with knowledge. Ask the questions if you are not able to locate the correct answers.

What plans did you order? What is the purpose of the speakers in your application?

Oh wow, yeah DR300s are waaaaaaaaaaaayy too much speaker for in house. You'll probably want to go with SLAs of some size for mains.

SLA's or TLAH will be your best bet with your situation. Although the Davids are really cool and you have the plans.

First thing is to get a DBX Driverack or similar.
BFM builds:
XF212
T24 BP102 24"
2x SLA's 6-5" mids, 9- gt-302's
2x AT 14" MCM 55-2421
TrT 5" MCM 55-2421
AT 18" JBL GTO804
2x OT12 flat array
2x SLA Pro 2-Alpha 6's 2-Goldwoods
2x T39 24" 3012lf
Simplex 10 BP102

Lol
I’m not going back to college to learn what’s in aDBX rackdrive , yeah looked at the manual, didn’t see an on and off switch , I can program a CNC G and M codes but this looks way too involved. Remember I’m 68 , surprisingly I haven’t blown something yet.

When you order the entire set of plans, you'll get both, PDF and Word files. I'm fairly sure you can use a standard thumb drive with a simple USB-C to female USB pigtail like this one... if it has USB Type C ports. Which it should if it's fairly new. I'm not an apple user though, might want to do a quick search, but it should be fairly straight forward.

If rock is your go-to, you may consider the T39 over the T48. In it's widest trim, currently stated as 28" wide with a 12" driver, it will match and possibly exceed the output of the T48 in all the music you listen to. Plus the T39 will take about 100 watts more with the LAB 12 in the T39 than in the T48, presumably due to the slightly higher high pass point of the T39... but that reasoning is completely assumed and formulated by my logic, which is about as reliable as a 10 day weather forecast. So, take it for what it's worth. Point is, the T39 will be all you need and more, and the T48 will play lower notes than you'll likely ever need or notice. I was bent on building the T48 for a good while, but built a single fairly narrow (16") T39 for my Dad's rehearsal space... you won't be disappointed with the T39... in the least. It's what most of the guys here have built and use.

Consider it. A T48 wont steer you wrong either.

... a dbx Driverack is a PA management DSP system that includes EQ, Crossover, and limiter for setting up your system to sound great and run safely without blowing drivers. With regard to the Titans and Tubas, the feature we need in the Driverack is the limiter, which will allow you to run the speaker up to it's limit and protect them from being overpowered. There's a lot more features in the unit/s too.

Another product with the features needed is the Behringer DCX2496, but the dbx has more to offer in a similarly priced unit and also offers greater brand recognition if that's important to you.

The T39 will do what you want for rock and roll. And there is no need for the Lab12. Use the 3012LF. Same output, lighter weight and cheaper.

The driverack is an essential tool to protect the drivers in the subs. Unlike a front-loaded speaker that will fart-out when it's getting close to the edge, the folded horn filters that out and you won't know it's going to blow until it does. Thus, a limiter is a must.

Driveracks are available used all the time in the $200 range used. You don't need the newest model. A PA, PA+, or a PX (if you are only using it as a two-way system) will all do what you need.

And we can help you set it up.

Us young 63 year-olds are happy to help you old geezers.....

6 - T39 3012LF
4 - OT12 2512
1 - T24
1 - SLA Pro
2 - XF210
